you might check on construction on hwy 50. Supposedly construction is starting in february 2021 for two years on widening the roadway through little blue creek canyon, which is sorely needed. There are some tight, narrow curves there and i almost got sideswiped by a semi last year. It's located between gunnison and montrose just west of the blue mesa reservoir. I don't know if they have started but you might check as the road will be shut down for hours at a time while they blast and clear. It's supposed to be open on the weekends and some during the days.

Thanks all. Great inputs. I'm sure I'm not the only one benefiting from this discussion. I know I'm doing a lot of zigging and zagging, but this trip is a combination of special events, special people and special destinations, and I'll be danged if the special people are going to get pushed out to another time because their locations are not in a straight line with the rest of this itinerary. So we'll gladly do the miles. I love driving this MH anyway, and for me and my DW, doing a western swing like this provides us with beautiful views and vistas that we just can't get back home.
