Using a tablet for GPS
I have an old Ipad that is maybe 20 years old. I have not used it in years. I am considering using it in conjuntion with this
https://www.amazon.com/Dual-Electron...a05748c9cfa2fa
Will that ipad work with that?
Any recommendations on an inexpensive tablet to use for gps?
Thanks for any help.

Looks like it will work with an ipad, but the ap probably requires IOS 10 or 11 or later. So your oldie might not support it.
Edit: IOS 9 or later (2018 ap) - see screenshot for that and a couple different reviews....

I don't know this, but....
The gps receiver in a 4G device is separate, so I'm speculating that gps will work without any 4G service, and it is present in the 4G receiver. It works that way on my phone with 4G turned off. Therefore an older 4G tablet will do fine without any 4G service, and you can simply use offline maps. Maybe, of course assuming you have a 4G capable tablet.
Also, the Verizon 8800L will pass GPS on to devices.

Needless to say, I am waaaay over my head with todays technology.
I see that I can use a gps tablet instead of a tablet with a separate gps receiver. I now wonder if I could use the same tablet to monitor a rear view camera. Is that possible and practical?
I appreciate any suggestions.

I'm going to say probably not.
1. If it's an old iPad you'll need to find out which OS it has and see if you can update it to a current build.
2. How does the device attach to the iPad, are they compatible?

I did not make myself clear. I plan on getting a new GPS enabled tablet. I would then like to also use it as a rear view monitor with a camera.

If the camera is WIFI, you should be able to.
I do it on my boat with a 10 inch Samsung Galaxy Tab A.

If you downloaded on the tablet from the Amazon store it should install itself and you should find an icon on the tablet to run the maps. That's all I have... Good luck!

The only thing I can find on amazon apps is "google meta maps" and it will not download.
Can someone tell me the exact name of the app I should download from amazon.
Thanks

Well, I found it loaded on my tablet. It brings up the map and lets me enter a destination. It only "twirls" when I press the arrow button on the bottom. Maybe it is because I am in my house.I will try it later outside.

It will work some of the time. Until you camp at a campground that there is no cell reception.
I did that. I did not have s tycounty level detail map for the area. No GPS, had to take a guess which way to go. Stoped on that trip a picked up a garmin.

Well, I went outside and same thing. I have also loaded WAZE and it does the same thing. I would like to uninstall both to start over again but I am not able to.
I guess I will just install again and hope it installs correctly.
This is truly one of ht emost frustrating computer problem I have experienced in the 40+ years of working with computers.
