Vancouver bc to sacramento ca

We are about to head south after spending a fantastic time in Canada. We would like to see part of the Oregon coast on the way down south, not really the entire length of 101 which is about 600 miles from Washington to California. What routes do you guys recommend, we are looking for less of mountain pass routes up and down etc but would like to see some of the beautiful coast. Considering I-5 down to Kelso Washington then across to the 101 through Astoria Oregon then down the 101 to around Coos Bay then back over to rejoin I-5 again. Any suggestions appreciated.

Exit I-5 at Kelso/Longview exit 36 and go west, signs will direct you for US 30 and Astoria. 101 south, to North of the community of Calpela, Exit 255B, and take CA 20 to Williams and pick up I-5. Best of coast is south to Coos Bay.

Stop someplace around Eureka or Fortuna and day trip into the Humbolt Redwoods and hit the visitor center North of Meyers Flats.

Lots of Oregon State Parks along the coast.

Maybe I am late and you are on your way south, surprised all the views and so few replies. If you are able to, start your S/B 101 trip in Astoria Oregon, you will not be disappointed. Neat town with a fantastic maritime museum. Fort Stevens Oregon State Park a beautiful park with history back to the Civil War. 101 is a coast highway, sometimes feels narrow due to the roadway being next to the ocean but it is perception rather then the actual lane width. No steep climbs (unless you are peddling a bike) to be concerned about.
Coos Bay has a couple of nice State Parks, Sunset Beach (camping) and Shore Acres (day use), Both are worth seeing. Mill Casino is a nice RV park on 101 and the river. Take hwy 42 to I-5. Another way is to take hwy 38 to I-5 from Reedsport which takes you by an Elk reserve.
If you continue south past Coos Bay there is more to see, once past Brookings you can take Ca 197/199 to I-5 which is a slow road along the middle fork of the Smith River until you reach Oregon, but a pretty drive.
Safe travels
