Virigina Beach to Wilmington, NC

What's the best route from Virginia Beach to Wilmington, NC?
South 17 0r I-95 south?

If time is not an issue I would run down through the Outter Banks. Head for Kitty Hawk run south on NC 12. Take the ferry from Hatteras to Ocracoke (free) and then the ferry from Ocracoke to Cedar Island (pay). Nice ride through the country.

Would love to do the above, but heading to our son's home to see our new grand daughter!

Then that's out. Take 264 to 58 West to 95 South, and so on. Go to Google Earth, put in the from and to for the routing.
