Walla Walla to Willamette, WA - Best Route

All, what is the best route from the Walla Walla area to the Willamette area (specifically Champoeg State Park) in Washington? Should we take the 14 or 84 along the Columbia River going west? Should we take the 205 to the 5, the 5 the whole way, or the 99 to the 5 going south? We don't mind driving a bit longer on a scenic, less crowded route. We'd really like to avoid a lot of freeway interchanges - very stressful for us when pulling our rig.

We are also open to totally different routes than the ones I've mentioned. Thanks for your help!

Champoeg is actually in Oregon? The route you list will be the quickest as is freeway all the way to the exit. Taking 205 let's you skip Portland, highly recommended. WA 14 is ok, but mostly 2 lane. US99 will have a lot of lights as most of it will bevtbroughbbtgge suburbs.

Champoeg is a beautiful park. We have not camped there but have visited it many times.

Enjoy.

84 west, 205 south, I 5 south to the Donald/Aurora exit ( there are 2 truck stops at the exit), west to the park.....it'll be on your right side.....nice place!.....Be careful at the exit by the truck stops...the one on your right is very busy with trucks coming back out....their road is fairly close to the exit and unless you're stopping there, don't turn right....stay on the road the exit joins...the truck stop road would lead you north....also, when leaving I 84 onto 205 south, follow the signs to Salem, and don't re join I 84 west into Portland

That would be Exit 278 off I-5. Turn right. 4-5 miles to Buteville Rd and TR. Go another 4-5 miles to Champoge Rd. and TL. Couple of miles or less to park entrance that is on your right. Well marked with signs to park.
