Washington DC to Boston- help!?

Hi all! We are on our first big trek in our '82 BB Wanderlodge. We've made it from South Carolina to Manassas, Va relatively unscathed, but I know the driving from here gets hairy at times.
We are headed to our campground south of Boston (about halfway between Boston and Providence, RI)
Does anyone have any tips and tricks or route advice? We have an EZ Pass and I would LOVE to make it there without too many road terror sweats and deathgrips on the steering wheel.

**our class A is an older baby, so she's not mountain friendly (air brakes and no jake)

If you have the time I would swing out to I81 to avoid all of the NYC area. If you don't have the time there aren't many choices. I would advise taking I287 around the NY area, a bit longer but less nerve racking.

We drove ours from Shady Acres south of Boston to Philly last summer. We took 84 to 684 to 287, over the Tappan Zee, then down the GS Parkway to the NJ Turnpike (I95) all the way to Washington, you would do it in reverse.

The Turnpike and GS Parkway take EZpass. 684 was kind of bumpy. But all roads up that way are bumpy.

Skylarno-

First off, welcome to iRV2!

If you make the trip on a weekend the traffic is much better.

Being as you're already west of DC, the suggestions to take 81 are probably the best.

We've taken about every route DC-to-New Hampshire except the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Here is our current favorite:

- 95N to 695W (DC Beltway)
- 695W to 95N between DC and Baltimore
- 95N to 495W or 495E (Baltimore Beltway) either direction will do; E is usually less congested, goes over the Francis Scott Key Bridge
- 495W or 495E to 95N
- 95N to Delaware Memorial Bridge
- Delaware Memorial Bridge to 295N
- 295N to 95W at Trenton NJ
- 95W to 31N at Ewing NJ
- 31N to 202E at Ringoes NJ
- 202E to 287N at Somerville NJ
- 297N to 87N at Suffern NY
- 87N to 912M (NY Thruway/Massachusetts Turnpike Extension) at Selkirk, NY
- 912M to 90E (Massachusetts Turnpike)

The Massachusetts Turnpike runs all the way to Boston, so get off somewhere around 495.

Note: The 912M portion road condition is fair at best.

We have gotten off 87N onto 84E at Newburgh, and then did 84 across Connecticut. I've tired of the poor roads and road construction around Waterbury, CT, though, and the congestion around Hartford.

E-ZPass works through this entire route.

This is some of the best advice you will get on here. We live on Cape Cod and every time I get stupid and take I95 I kick myself for weeks. The I95 Route is bad roads, horrible drivers and just to add insult to injury expensive.

We left the Cape 12/27 for Florida when the low was 5 and the high was 15. We normally stop at Mohegan Sun - Poconos in Wilkes-Barre and boondock, but with the low in the single digits we elected to go I95 with a stop outside Philly so we would have power. Between NYC and Washington traffic it was one of the worse mistakes I have ever made. When we came home last week we took I81/84 and while there was construction around Scranton it was so much nicer. Stop at Promised Land State Park east of Scranton, it is beautiful!
