Washington PA to Washington DC

Heading for home in Southern Maryland, SE of DC. Looking at alternatives and insights on routes.

Considering 3 options:

I-79 to I-68 at Morgantown WV to I-70 to I-270
or
I-70 to I-270 through Breezewood
or
I-70 to PA 43 to US-40 around Uniontown to I-68 west of Grantsville MD to I-70 to I-270

Looking for insights regarding how rough the roads are. From 511PA and MD DOT it appears there is no major construction other than at Washington PA (where we are now).

Thanks in advance

I-79 to I-68 at Morgantown WV to I-70 to I-270 Would be my prefered route - have used it often as it is about 4 hours to Annapolis and is a good start for us as a late afternoon start to head west. (can leave at 6 be in the Wally parking lot and asleep by 10 )

Roads are fine but if timing is Wrong TRAFFIC is a Bear.

IMHO the Toll roads were made for Sports Cars - fun in them but not in a Coach or 5th wheel.

Never looked at RT 43.

Hope this helps,

You are already at I79 , i would take that to I68.

43 is new/ good road but might as well not pay the toll.
40 out of uniontown to 68 is not a good route, hills, 43 out of uniontown to I68 is better but toll.

Skipper,

You advised me to take this route this spring. I did and it worked great. A few nice views along the way. AND there is a great mexican restaurant in the MOrgantown Walmart parking lot!

Regards.

Chuck

Went I 79 and 68

Thanks for the input, I went as suggested and found the roads good. Beat DC rush-hour traffic by an hour or so. Rained heavily several times but traffic wasn't heavy until we neared Frederick. Worst traffic by far was on MD 5 coming into Waldorf. Construction closed one of two lanes and at 3 PM the backup was already half way to the DC beltway.

Thanks again.

We are in Charleroi, PA, just east of Washington, PA. We have always taken I-70 to I-76 East to Breezewood when heading home to Florida after visiting with family in Pittsburgh.
Thinking about taking 43 south down to I-68 East to where we always pick up 522 south. Question?? How is 43 south to I-68? We are 45 feet flat towing a car.
Thanks!
