RV 770 LMT-S is not wanting to route me along Rt. 20 from Mazama to Newhalem. Traveling from Spokane over to Mount Vernon / Anacortes. I could follow a more southern route RT. 2 to Everett and then go up I-5. Is Rt. 20 through that area (Ross Dam) that bad? I'm just trying to choose more scenic routes. I'm pull a 40' FW.

It’s a beautiful drive but you can run into some nasty weather this time of year. I’ve run into the same problem with GPS not routing on that highway. In my opinion route 20 or route 2 can be sketchy this time of year. Definitely call the Washington State Patrol for road conditions/closures.

Hi RoadEyePie; Then North Cascades Hwy 20 is closed for the season right now. Closed a little over a week or so ago on the last big snow dump in the Cascades. You can find all the pass or road info on the Washington DOT web site. Happy Thanksgiving!

WA20 is gorgeous but not a place to drive with a RV in winter.

The end of September is beautiful across 20, but watch the weather! We frequently get heavy snow fall the last week of September and the beginning of October.

20 is great in the spring(when it opens)summer and fall. Not many turnouts, but the few there are worth stopping, as the scenery is beautiful. I can't believe they used to pay me to work there. (retired from Seattle City Light) Make sure your engine/exhaust brake is in good working order, go cautiously and believe the speed recommendations on every corner. We do this route frequently from the Westside to Winthrop pulling the toad, no issues. Winthrop is a nice place to hang your Spurs up for the night. Decent KOA or Lake Pearrygin State Park is best bet for a layover. Lots to do there.

My last CG is at Wilbur before committing to Rt. 20. If it doesn't look good weather wise, I'll follow Rt. 2. which I assume would be less likely to have issues.
