West Yellowstone to Dubois

Hi All, we are going from west Yellowstone Grizzly RV park to Longhorn Rv in Dubois WY.

Can we travel with our 40ft 5th wheel through Yellowstone as it is a shorter route?

Has anyone done this route?

Thanks
Marci

Never did it with a trailer but have a few times with both gas and diesel motor homes. There are lots of twists and turns and ups and downs but it really is a nice ride.

Yes you can. We have done it and it's a nice drive. Best to leave early morning before crowds and better time to spot some critters. Getting through the town of Jackson is always a chore. If you need to stock up on groceries, beer or fuel there's a very large grocery on the right after leaving Jackson. It has all of those necessities right there in the same parking lot. I believe it's Smith's. Much better prices on everything than in West Yellowstone.

The park's website states to expect delays around Old Faithful for road repair so early there would be best.

No need to go to Jackson, take US191 from West Yellowstone to Moran, US26 from Moran to Dubois.

Not a problem, thousands do it every year!

Do you know what height if the bridge at old faithful is? We want to make sure we fit under.

No problem. There's a tall tunnel by the Cody entrance but I don't even recall one by Old Faithful.
Yellowstone is RV-friendly - any size. Food/supply semi trucks drive for their night deliveries. While in West Yellowstone you'll probably drive to Old Faithful so you can see for yourself what's there.... and correct, no need to go into Jackson unless you want to stock up on groceries, etc. Evidently, you're not planning on a stay in Grand Teton Nat'l Park. It's highly recommended if you can. It's completely different from Yellowstone in looks and things to do.

We will be driving in to see Tetons, couldn’t get reservations anywhere. So longhorn Rv was our best option, from there we head to Cody.

I would second the advice on stocking up before getting to Dubois, unless things have changed a lot since we were at Longhorn RV ranch in 2017, there are not many shopping options in town, just one small grocery store that was so small it did not even have name brand frozen pizzas, and parking for only about a dozen cars.

Ike

p.s. here is a photo of the riverfront site we had at Longhorn RV ranch. As I recall fairly nice RV park, fairly good laundry rooms, though not the friendliest of people working at the office.
