Where to stop from Little Rock, AR to Topsail Hill Preserve, FL

We're taking our first long trip in the new Thor Hurricane 34E in 2 weeks from Little Rock, AR to Topsail Hill Preserve in FL. We have 2 full days to get there. It's a 10-hour Google Maps trip which I figure means 11-12 hours for me driving a little more slowly and time for meals, etc.

I offered my wife the choice of two stops, resulting in 3 short drive days, or one stop with two longer days. She chose the one stop.

We're looking for a place roughly halfway between LR and Topsail, although it doesn't have to be on the most direct route. Birmingham seems about in the middle, and I've been looking at Oak Mountain SP.

I know the answers are going to depend on the "what do you want to do" question, so I'll give some background if it helps:

Wife and I are early 40s with two boys, 8 and 6. We don't have any kind of toad set up yet and are looking for Class A-friendly activities and/or camping where we can enjoy ourselves right where we are or with minimal walking. Wi-fi a plus but not required. Pool likewise.

Any ideas from that mess of a request?

Did it without a tow, but no kids.... There are many state parks in Florida that are nice, AND available. We did the Birmingham route but staed at truck stop.... Nit good for kids.... Look at the FL state park website..... Have done it several times without prior reservations.... Also a good overnight is at the casino in Vicksburg. Acoss the road and fairly nice.... Do have a pool....

Thanks for the tips. I'm not brave enough to stop somewhere besides a campground yet. Mainly I don't know my own rig well enough yet. Since it's a 2-day stay I expanded my search and found Jellystone just outside Jackson, MS. It adds about 45 mins to the overall trip but sounds like just the right place for two boys. I'll try to post some pictures from this trip; my last trip's pictures are still on the camera waiting to be downloaded

With kids, most Jellystones are nice and have kid friendly activities. Check and see what activities are scheduled when you'll be there. If you have not visited www.campgroundreviews.com I recommend you do so.

Thanks, I've spent a lot of time on rvparkreviews and posted my first review there last weekend from the Maumelle COE in Arkansas. We settled on 2 days at Jellystone in Pelahatchie and 5 days at Topsail Hill Preserve SP. If we love Jellystone we'll stop there again on the way home. Otherwise we might try Oak Mountain near Birmingham, AL.

I don't want to rush into a tow vehicle, but it would be nice to be able to park somewhere and take the toad out around town. For this trip at least we'll be looking for RV-friendly gas stations, restaurants and attractions to visit

Don't overlook cheap car rentals and pick you up services like Enterprise has. You can likely get a car for 24 hours for about $30.

Oak Mountain is several miles from the interstate. For an overnight stay with easy pull thru sites, we stay at Birmingham South. South of B-Ham in Hoover. Right off the interstate, easy drive to the mall.
