why do campgrounds close their pools immediately after Labor Day?

My husband and I want to go camping sometimes in mid to late September but most campgrounds close their pools immediately after Labor Day. There are lots of warm days left in the North after Labor Day!

Most of the time, lifeguards are college or high school students. Obviously they aren't available. Pools are geared towards children mostly, so after labor day, no children. They are in football, soccer, and so many other pursuits, not a lot of family camping goes on after labor day. Pool maintenance is horrendously expensive, whether 10 people or 100 people use it. There are RV resorts that keep their pools open, but it's big bucks to stay there.

Many campgrounds do not offer lifeguard service even in August.

However many of the staff, including the pool cleaner are headed back to school.

Also Labor day is the last big holiday of summer, so business drops after LD.

Still, even in the south I have seen them close up after Labor day.. The park I over-winter at is always pool-closed when I'm there.

Might be to keep the cost down on operating the pool.

Gee, I had no considered that on our north-bound trip this fall. Something I had not thought of.

As mentioned above PLUS, cool evenings mean the water gets too cold to use without heating after about two or three nights. Heating a pool is BIG bucks.

Once school starts in early to mid August, campground pools typically do not get much use. Perhaps the decision to close the pools is based on the fact that the expense is not necessary to attract/keep customers that time of year. I know that DW and I would not dream of going to the pool if the air temperature was below 90, so a pool open in September would not influence our decision to stay or not stay at a particular cg.

I'm curious....do any if these Parks with a pool "reduce" their price when they close this amenity?

Chief is right on. We had a pool in the Atl,Ga area and we never swam past Sept. 15. The cool nights made the water temp too cold for swimming past Sept 15.

In the PAC northwest the story is the same. The thing is though, weather often isn't that great in June and much hotter in September in most years. Our summer follows the real solstice on the calendar. They should stay open until the 3rd week of September and campgrounds see great weekend use in that month.

Here in the south where it is very warm all of september many pools close after labor day or more specifically once school starts. Lifeguards are back in school and the number of kids using the pool drops dramatically. Pools open back up after Memorial day.
