Worst roads ever

Although they are slowly improving, anyone travelling I-40 through Memphis slow down and use extra caution. The east side of Memphis has got to be the worst road anywhere. I thought the bus was going to come apart and things that never move were scattered everywhere and that was at 50-55 MPH.

That must have been 240. There was a lot of construction on the north side east bound 40 last fall too and it sounded like my coach was coming apart - again at around 50mph.

But if you are staying in the area and looking for a place to camp on the East side, the Agri-center has an abundance of spaces (although not too many with shade) and 50amp power. And it’s safe and well managed and far enough away from town.

Memphis can be a challenge in an RV. There’s also TO Fuller on the SW side and Tom Sawyer across the river.

It's been awhile since I took I-40 to the east of OK and recall the worst stretch to be in Arkansas - all the way across Arkansas. Did that get fixed? I-40 in TN was largely pristine in comparison.

Also the Indiana State Tree is/was the highway construction light plant pole...

Most of I-40 in Arkansas has been resurfaced or replaced but there are still some places that aren't very nice.

One of the worst stretches of Hwy is the road between Tok, AK and Glenallen, AK. I don't care what time of year it is. Many have posted comments about this terrible stretch of road, so many of you have experience on it.
Cheers

From Orange Texas pretty much to the Atchafalaya Basin bridge is the worst section of I-10 between Jacksonville FL & Los Angeles!

If you think any federal highway has bad roads then do not travel between Ft. Stockton, TX and Carlsbad, NM on Rt-285. While I can't say I've ever driven in a war zone I can only imagine that is what it is like. HUGE potholes, places where the road was just removed and you drop down 18 inches onto gravel and carnage everywhere. We missed a pothole with the RV and took a direct hit with the toad. Cut the tire instantly. We stopped to see if the WalMart on the Carlsbad side had a tire for us (they didn't) and the worker said I was "Lucky" because I didn't get brough in on a flatbed with 2 tires cut like most people.
I'm not sure I will ever complain about a federal highway's condition again after that section of road.

That is a major oil field route.
Thousands of oil field trucks every day.

I made a deliberate decision decades ago to only visit OK for family and employment reasons because of things "we don't discuss" on the iRV2 forums. But... it's between I-70 and I-20 so I get to enjoy the highways even if I'm not stopping there.

Pretty much any state/county/city road in West Texas and SE New Mexico is like that right now ... overloaded oil field trucks trash them quicker than they can be repaired. Wife hit a pothole in her brand new Escalade and cracked a front rim, that was an expensive ooops! It's what we get for living in the midst of an oil boom!
