Would you drive your MH to Baja Mexico
How many of you feel comfortable driving your Motorhome or RV down to Baja Mexico. I'm really concerned about actually driving it there and back. I would get the proper insurance ect., but I'm leaning towards not doing it as I'm not sure if it is safe to, or would make us a target.
I'm not concerned about where we would end up as we have friends who own some houses in a location that is just south of Ensenada. We have been going there since we were kids, the complex has it's own security, and a campsite next to the houses right on the beach, and it's beautiful. I have no problem in the car, but the MH concerns me.

You've already made the trip on many occasions so you already know 90% of the journey is on a two lane freeway and not much more than an couple hours outta San Diego. You know you are going to nice safe & secure campground.
I've done the trip many times by car & with an RV and wouldn't give it a second thought.

About 4 years ago a couple was traveling from Mexicali to Yuma along the boarder in Mexico. They were stop by police and the driver was taken out of the RV and arrested. The wife and kids were left in the RV. She drove to the nearest Mexican town and found out that the cops were Cartel and that they wanted a reward for his safe return.
What do you do if this happens to you? You have no rights in Mexico.

Thanks for the reply. I guess I didn't word my question right as I didn't get much of a response so far. My question should have been do any of you drive your MH into Mexico, what have your experiences been and have you had any problems with the Mexican Authorities or others. My wife is sure something bad will happen down there.

Go at your own risk. As previously stated you have no rights in Mexico.
You are probably at greater risk in your Canyon Star, as that shouts wealth to miscreants. Cartels run rampant and law enforcement is little better.
If you have a problem this administration will do nothing to help.

Used to live in Chula Vista and would go to Ensenada and San Quintin two or three times a year. On our last trip, about 18 years ago, kids threw rocks at us while we were driving back near the San Ysidro POE causing some paint damage. Me, I won't go back in antomobile let alone take an RV there. All that said there are still many people to take RV's to Mexico without problem but I won't be one of them.

Much of Mexico is beautiful, but it is not the US...like;
DO NOT carry a gun...they have a zero tolerance on that rule.
Buy insurance before you cross the border.
Learn some spanish...instantly earns the visitor some respect.
Be a good guest...don't be "the ugly American".
Realize that local law enforcement is not like in Mayberry, USA...enough said.
Crime exists from local bad'ies to Cartel (organized) crime (kidnapping)...it is the duty of the traveler to stay safe.
A general rule followed by locals in SoCal is to get through the border region ASAP...then you can relax. If anyone goes, stay safe and enjoy.
Safe travels

My major concern is a passport.
In order to get a passport I have to get a copy of my Birth Certificate.
Since, like our current President's mother, My mother re-married after I waS born, and like him, I was adopted by the new husband, that means I have to go to the trouble of applying for an "Amended" copy, Because the law does not allow me to know the name of my birth father (never mine it's on my marriage certificate which is in the next room) .
It took the president 3 years to get his.. How long do you think it will take John F Citizen? (I have no clue)
I should have applied back when my Daughter got hers before the HIPPA law was passed OH well, cheaper then too.
