Yellowstone to Custer So Dakota

Heading out to Custer State Park from Idaho on Thurs 8/30. Looking at going thru Yellowstone to Cody and then take Hwy 16 out of Cody. I'm driving a 43 foot Class A towing a Jeep Wrangler. Is Hwy 16 a good drive or should I go up 191 to I-90 and around Yellowstone?

The route depends on weather and how much time you have to make the trip. We took that drive in June, going from West Yellowstone, across the park, to Cody. Took 14 to 20 and connected to 16 to I90 at Buffalo. We then drove onto Spearfish. The back roads are not fast so that was a full days drive. Taking I90 would save some time and perhaps avoid delays from detours and road construction. If it's raining I would definitely take I90. Despite GPS, reading road signs in the rain is not fun.

We did the reverse route via 16 last year, from Sundance to Cody, didnt have any problems or issues with the roads. Powder River Pass at 9666 foot was the highest point. It was kinda chilly up there even in August.

I have use both a few times, but only going West. Both are nice drives I/90 is just a little less work driving but either will be good.
