I especially like those that take me to/through high places.
Growing up in Texas, I came to love the vistas that can only be seen from the high places.

Original Grand Army of the Republic Highway. 3,200 miles coast to coast.

George R. Stewart, author of U.S. 40: Cross Section of the United States of America, initially considered US 6 for his book but decided that “Route 6 runs uncertainly from nowhere to nowhere, scarcely to be followed from one end to the other, except by some devoted eccentric".

For the views:
Hwy 16 in Wyoming through Bighorn NF from Ten Sleep to Buffalo
Hwy 26 and 20 in Idaho from Shoshone to Arco
I-84 from Spokane to Missoula

For the easy drive:
I-94 in the late spring/early summer

Utah 12 https://www.visitutah.com/articles/t...cenic-byway-12

Avoid the crowds at the big 5 and enjoy this ride. Thousand Lakes CG at the north end is tops, with morning muffins and steaks at night on site! Short drive to uncrowded Capitol Reef NP

I 90 just west of Sioux Falls all the way to Missoula.
When I’m on that I know I’m heading to Glacier, Yellowstone, Big Horns, Bad Lands, Custer, Devils Tower, Little Big Horn etc.
always the best in summer.

My favorite highway is the flat one with no mountains. Oh, and no idiot drivers.

I second that. I have driven in all 50 states and Utah Hwy 12 is the most stunningly beautiful highway I have ever seen. It can accommodate a big rig with ease.

CO550 from Durango to Ouray.

For me by far is the Icefield Parkway, here’s the official promo .
“Linking Lake Louise with Jasper, Alberta is one of the most beautiful journeys on the planet – the Icefields Parkway. Rated as one of the top drives in the world by Condé Nast Traveller, the Icefield Parkway is a 232 km stretch of double-lane highway winding along the Continental Divide through soaring rocky mountain peaks, icefields and vast sweeping valleys.”

I'm sorta with twogypsies on this. Although I will throw in a couple highways. Interstate I70 between Green River, Utah and Salina, UT

I think for a US highway I will choose US550 between Silverton and Durango.

State highway Wyoming state highway WY296 between its intersection with WY 120 and US12.
