Nice looking rig! I have a very similar set up except I am a bit heavier. I am over gross but under on all of my axles & tow rating. A couple years back I re-geared it to 4.56 & that helped me climb the mountains/hills much better. The way my Ram was geared it actually made the truck run & drive much better unloaded too. Have fun with it!

Loaded up for camping

Finally got the camper weighed again loaded with our camping stuff, water and propane. The truck was full of gas including my wife and dog.

The point isn't if you can tow with a 3/4 ton. If you are new truck shopping and plan to tow, seriously consider buying a one ton. If you already have a 3/4 ton throw a hitch in it and see if it works for you. The whole point is to get folks to think about what they are doing. If you have a 12,000# tow rating, don't go shopping for a 44' DVR. Makes no difference to me if you are overloaded when you fill your tanks. I turned in my weight police badge long ago. Just be sure to use the turn outs when you are going 35mph up the 70mph hills.

Just for fun I went to the build Chevy site and configured a 2023 LTZ in both 3/4 ton and 1 ton. Configured the same the price difference was $1200. Like I said, if you already own a 3/4 ton, run it. Lots of them in the campgrounds. But if you are shopping, seriously consider getting a one ton if fifth wheel towing is one of your main uses. Fully realize that if you go shopping, odds are you won't get to see a new truck much less get to select your options off the lot. That may push you into a 3/4 ton due to availability. Dealers order way more 3/4 tons for their own inventory than they do one tons. The new 3/4 tons are very competent tow vehicles.

Finding my truck

I normally only bought Dodge (Ram). I needed a vehicle and when I was looking I couldn’t find anything (Ford, Ram, Chevy) in my area except used trucks for new truck money or trucks that had every option known to man. I am pleasantly surprised with how this gas truck tows. I haven’t owned a gas truck in 20 years. The only thing I noticed is when climbing a hill it slows down a little bit (maybe 3-4mph) and downshifts and gets back up to speed with the cruise control.
