5th wheel hitch?

I have a 2019 RAM 3500 crew cab dually with 6.7 diesel.
I plan to tow a 17000 lb gross 42 ft 5th wheel. It has the puck system. I'd be very appreciative for any recommendations for a safe, sound, and smooth 5th wheel hitch. Thank you for your help

I have a Trailer Saver which is an Air Ride hitch. Their BD 5 is the right size for your trailer . They are expensive and heavy compared to other brands but your ride in the truck and the wear and tear that your trailer never goes thru will make it last longer. Go their website a check it out. I have had mine for 12 yrs no problems .

We have been using the Trailer Saver TS3 for 6 years now and very pleased with the ride from the hitch. As noted, they are expensive and heavy. Out TS3 is a bit over 400#.

Howdy!

Have you consider a Reece Goose Box instead of a 5er hitch. I replaced my pin box with a Goose Box over a year ago and would not go back to a 5er hitch. Its also nice to have a clean truck bed instead of a big heavy 5er hitch.

I did this as well. Empty bed when you are not towing! Smoother ride than a fixed 5th wheel hitch.

We use the Mopar 25K hitch. Bought it new from dealer when we purchased the Ram for $700. He had it sitting there for almost a year and we needed a bigger hitch and he needed out of his way.

Trailersaver BD5. There is no equal that I am aware of.

As others have mentioned - if you want a smooth ride for both you and your RV, get a Trailersaver BD5.

I agree with the posts regarding Trailer Saver products. I tow with a TS3 and concur they are well built and smooth towing within limitations. Their website shows the BD5 as being available for Ford and GM trucks, no mention of Ram. The have advertised in trade periodicals that they now have a BD5 model to fit the Ram pucks. Can't imagine why they have not updated their website. Better to give them a call.

Roadmaster makes the Comfort Ride hitch that uses air cells rather than air bags. Like Trailer Saver, they fit into the heavy, expensive, very high quality category. If you like the high hinge design such as the TS3 (to alleviate chucking), the Comfort Ride equivalent is more adjustable with better mounting options. I still prefer the TS3 to alleviate chucking as the hinge is higher relative to the hitch plate.

Ona 42' 5er, bouncing forces will be the issue and I would go with the BD5. Good luck.

I have the B&W companion 24K with the puck mounts and like it. It's heavy but a top notch solid hitch. I have an electric hoist I installed in my garage ceiling to remove it when necessary. Just bought the B&W lifting tool but haven't had a chance to use it yet. Soon though.

I tow a 20,000 lb GVWR Momentum Toy Hauler and use the B&W Companion 25K hitch. It is well built, tows very smooth and is American made with great customer service I'm told. Fortunately, I've never had to use customer service for it, as it has been flawless for me. I have a 2016 F350 Dually and the puck system, so it's a pretty easy install. The unit comes in two pieces...the base and the head for a total weight of around 175-180 lbs. I really don't have much need to remove it from the truck, but if I would need to, you just separate the two pieces and take them out one piece at a time.

I have a Mopar 25K hitch in my 2020 Ram 3500, got it in the deal with the truck.

I looked at the Anderson hitch, until I found 2-3 of failures like this https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...ch-falure.html

I use the Demco 5th Wheel Lifting Bracket, and a chain hoist.

I would not not go near a GooseBox. I know of two people that had the GB on their new trailers and they rode terribly. Both went back to a conventional Mor/Ryde pinbox and are happy.

As an added note from a retired mechanical engineer, I do not like the design of the GB.
