I see Brinkley offers the Gen Z pin box as an $1800 factory option. For an extra $1200 you could get an air hitch. The difference being, other than the quality of the tow, should you trade in or sell the trailer the pin box would go with it. With an air hitch, you would still own it and could realize some resale value.
Never heard of East West Tandara trailers nor seen one. 10,600# for a 36' high content fifth wheel seems awfully light. The Brinkley weighs 12.5% more, maybe in extra features and quality. Your call in terms of value, comparing what the actual costs are. I've seen plenty of Brinkleys and they are nice looking rigs.
You won't have trouble towing a 5er. Just realize they cut corners and backing is different than what you are used to. Hooking up and leveling will be easier. The fiver will hang over the bed four feet plus your weight distribution hitch and trailer tongue stick out about 5 feet. The fifth wheel may tow shorter than your travel trailer.

I second Orrins choice. I have a 2020 Ram 3500 megacab dually and have the Demco 21K auto slide pulling a 38' KZ Durango. I love it and have had the Pullrite but the Demco does it hands down. Only con some might consider is it is heavy and takes up a lot of room in the bed, but we are fulltiming so leave it in the truck permanently.

Thats good to know! I'm planning on towing a new FW with a 2024 2500HD diesel/gooseneck and I noticed the center ball hole was already set back from axel centerline by a few inches. Heard (via this forum somewhere) that the purpose was to assist with that cab clearance when towing a FW, but I don't know the validity of that statement.
I was contemplating a Gen-Y offset ball (picture attached) to help with the cab clearance. Anyone have an experience and/or knowledge with this type of offset?
Thanks!

I use a gen-y offset and it is working fine for me. can cut a pretty good angle. My center puck is centered on the rear axle, so this moves it back enough to make any turn i need to so far. I had to cut back a pretty sharp angle that I watched closely but didn't hit. It was my fault as I should not have had to make that turn in the first place. Previously I used a Superglide autoslider and never even gave it a thought. I do watch this closer.

Being new to 5th wheels, I was under the impression that the advantage to towing a 5th wheel was the stability that the platform of the hitch provides - is that not the case? I have seen Brinkley recommend the new GenY Gooseneck so hence my curiosity.
Thanks Ron

I think the Brinkley is worth the extra money. I think they are well built quality campers. A lot of others are lighter; and what I call "flimsy" campers.
This is my first fifth wheel camper that I tow as a gooseneck as my other two were towed with a fifth wheel hitch. The gooseneck seems just as stable and secure as the fifth wheel hitch, and most heavy horse trailers and farm trailers that weigh more than the Brinkley are gooseneck trailers.
I have never towed with a with a short bed. I know you need to be careful with a short bed as I have seen back windows and cabs crunched by the front of the camper. Do some good research on automatic sliding hitches. I have towed with 3500 long bed trucks, SRW and dually.
Thanks,

Thanks Darrell, good to hear. Now I need to find some folks that have the GM factory offset and see if I actually need the additional Gen-Y offset.

Thanks for the feedback - in researching this I really like the way it is put together. One question if I might. Does the autoslide make backing up different because it changes the geometry?
Make it harder to get the trailer where you want it? Hope that makes sense.

We have a B&W non-slider on a 2021 F350 short bed and it works great. Been able to get in and out of some tighter places without a problem.

Did some curb checks starting out w our 5er. We use Anderson hitch. Weight is an issue for us and it saved us 100 lb. It can be removed easily and gooseneck ball recessed to make truck bed fully usable . We had to turn the part attached to trailer backwards to keep trailer from damaging truck rails on sharp turns. Trailer front cap clears truck window - barely

I had an Andersen Hitch and switched to a Gen-Y Executive with a gooseneck ball. Much better ride with no chucking motions. Distance from cab is great with a GMC Sierra 3500 AT4 with standard bed. Didn't need the Gen-Y 4-inch offset puck. If you go this route, make sure your gooseneck ball is tight (mine is in the OEM 5th Wheel puck system. I had to get some brass shims from Amazon (comes in 3x5 sheets) to secure the gooseneck ball from movement. No chucking now and a great ride.

FWIW,
16k lb 5th wheel, 2018 Ram 3500 DRW 6.7 HO AISIN here.
I switched to the Curt Crosswing. They have 2 versions, ISR and Goose mount. I will never go back to a standard or slider 5th wheel hitch. Solid, light, offset to help with the turning radius and I can pull it out in a matter of minutes by myself. To top it off, it’s cheaper than most of not all the rest.

X 4 (at least) on the Demco auto-slide. New to 5th wheels so one less worry.

I use the B&W slider hitch for my short bed, and the regular B&W hitch for my long bed. They are solid hitches and you will see them on the full-time RV folks on YouTube.
I recommend that you watch the YouTube videos for background information on hitches.

We traded our beautiful 5th wheel in for a motor home several years ago. We got tired of the 'chucking' on the road. If I had known that there is a hitch make or two that gets rid of the chucking I would probably still have the 5er. So, look for that type of hitch.. More expensive but well worth it.
