5th wheel tires off ground
when we auto leveled our Alliance Paradigm 395, the [2] driver-side wheels came off ground along with one mid-stabilizer jack. My question is when I go to hook back up, do I retract the rear jacks before lowering the front? I believe that is the way it's supposed to be done, but we are not on level ground and front is quite high.

Sounds like you need to re-zero your auto level. You need to manually level the unit. I am not sure what Alliance is putting in, but you should have the leveler manual in your owner's packet.

Welcome to the forum!!
What level system do you have? If it is the latest Lippert Ground Control 3.0 then hit Hitch Height button, which initiates the Hitch Recognition by retracting the 4 rear jacks and then adjusting the front jacks to put the king pin at the same position it was unhitched. If not, retract the rear jacks them adjust the front jacks up or down to put the king pin in the hitch up position.

Paradigm 395 Rear Wheel Issue 5th Wheel Hook up
thanks for the responses - we do have a Lippert system, just not sure of the model number but it does have the 'auto reconnect' [if you will] feature whereby you hit the Right-Left buttons simultaneously for 7secs and it should go back to 'unhook from 5th wheel height' - but, because the left rears are off the ground [now with blocks under them in case jacks failed] I may just go with the manual suggestion, retract the rears and then lower the front as needed - this forum is great and thanks for your feedback - having hauled only gooseneck horse trailers for 20yrs I am totally in the dark with this system and 5th wheels - your responses have helped tremendously - I attached a PDF of the Lippert Model we have

I had that Lippert system on my last 2 fifth wheel trailers and it is very easy to manually retrack the rear jacks then raise/lower the front jacks to hitch height.

Just a heads up on tires off the ground with multi axle trailers std leaf spring suspension.
Some times side link can flip the wrong direction causing all kinds of tire or suspension issues.
Make sure after the jacks are retracted that all the side links are in the same direction.
A google search using a ramp under one tire can flip the link.....with a big bang.

I have a Cedar Creek fifth wheel with the level up and occasionally my tires will come off the ground on one side, sometimes just one tire. Nowadays I put pads under the jacks and I carry a couple of 2X8 boards that I put under one side if the campsite is not to level. When I raise the front jacks to get back on the truck I scroll down to retract the jacks and all the jacks come up. My camper is in the shop (tv) but I plan on getting the technician to show me how to lift just one side up so I can change a tire

When I need to remove a tire I use the Level-up to jack the rig. I go to "manual mode", select "extend" and I extend "left or right side" whichever is needed. I only go about 2" of the ground. I have the rig connected to the truck as well. With our suspension, I don't need to worry about flipping the shackles.

Great suggestions/tips/advice one and all - was successful using the auto-retract feature [able to use after auto-level] so it retracted rear jacks and set trailer height to hook-up level when we first unhooked - we did switch to manual to tweak the height accordingly - thanks again and I will have to update my Paradigm Model Number somehow in call-sign, it is actually a '295' Alliance Paradigm not a '395'

The first time we parked our new fiver in our favorite state park site and hit auto level the right side wheels came off the ground. The wife didn't go for that so I had to hitch up, pull up and put a bunch of lumber under the wheels to make her happy. Now I carry plenty of boards to level it before I unhook.
On one state park site I had to build extra steps because of the drop off. That one is off our list now!
I don't think they recommend using the system to jack up one side.

Why do you think the jacks care if the tires are off the ground? If you still cannot get it level, that is a problem for sure. But otherwise, it really doesn't hurt anything for the tires to be off the ground as long as the system can hit level without "out of stroke" errors.

If you had read a little closer you would have seen that the wife cared and she wasn't the one hitching back up either.

Where in my reply did I talk about any of that. I quoted the person I was replying to. And it wasn't you.
