Hi everyone,
This is our year of fun it seems. When trying out the a/c this weekend for the first time, we found problems with it. The fan turns on, but when switching over to a/c, it runs a bit then the air cuts off-still with a hum of a motor somewhere going.
We've called every RV dealer within a 2 hour ride of our home, and they can't get us in before we leave for vacation in 2 weeks. We've even tried some of the HVAC guys here and no one will touch it-it's a Duo Therm because they don't know it.
SO, anyone know of who's reputable or had them down in Myrtle Beach that will come out to your site? That looks about the only way we'll get if fixed or we'll have the hottest vacation ever on record this year. And 5 very cranky people.
Thanks,
Nell

Not to sound flippant, but have you contacted Duo Therm for an authorized Service Center near Myrtle Beach?

No, I honestly hadn't thought of it. I will have to get my books out and call them, that's a very good idea. Thanks!

Have you removed the shroud and inspected everything for mud-dabber nests, wasp nests, etc? The fan motor should turn freely and coast to a stop by spinning the fan. Hold your hand against the compressor during the time the AC quits(be careful to avoid the fan blades, they cut!). The compressor should have a vibration, if it quits when the AC shuts down you likely need a new compressor or complete AC unit; depending on your situation. Another test is to use one of the current tester things available from Sears(looks like a picture frame with plugs on each end) to measure current draw without disturbing any wiring. It fits between the AC plug and the receptacle so you can clamp the ammeter around one side of the 120VAC line. Again - be careful! Current draw should not exceed the rating on the nameplate, if it does the compressor is faulty. Both items require care and knowledge, if you are not comfortable with a procedure don't attempt it.
