A little confused on tanks

My Columbus (in sig) is listed as having a 71gal grey tank capacity.

What’s throwing me off is the fact that I have a seperate dump valve for
“Grey Tank” and one for “Galley Tank.” Clearly two different tanks when dumping.....soooooo what am I to think? Divide in half and assume each is 35.5 gallons?

Is it maybe one tank that is baffled?

I’d bet your first guess is correct; two 35 gallon tanks.

Our Cougar had 2 grey tanks, 1 for the galley & the other for all other grey water. But the brochure stated grey capacity was just 1 number: 60 gal. Never did take the time to find out how much each one was.

Our Bighorn has two black and two grey tanks. Capacities for both black and grey are totals not for each tank. Like Lori, I've never tried to determine each.

My timber Ridge has 80 gallons grey: two 40 gallon tanks.

I'd be willing to bet they use the same tank for both n yours so evenly sized.

I also agree that your capacity listed is a total and you have 2 greys the same size.

Yep. I wish there was a way to open a valve and combine them. I fill my galley tank way faster than the other one.

Might be time for a 5 gallon bucket and a little experimenting. How's that new truck and hitch working out?

Well....thank you for the input. I was hoping they were baffled. We would definitly get better use of a larger grey vs. the galley. Guess we have to brush teeth in the kitchen to conserve shower space. Kind of annoying.

Assuming that you have a single dump pipe with three valves, you can add a twist-on gate valve on the end of the dump pipe. With the black tank valve closed (as it should be) and the twist-on valve closed, you can then open both grey tank valves and they will equalize, and you can really use 70 gallons as needed. No need to brush your teeth in the kitchen.

Then close both when it is time to dump the black tank. There will be 1 or 2 gallons of grey water in the pipe. Open the twist-on gate valve and that small amount of water will flow out first. Then open the black tank valve followed by grey valves as you would normally do.

We have 2 gray tanks on the rig in my signature that are the same size.

dayle1: Sounds good on paper but I'm not sure that will work with my 5th wheel. But I'm going to give it a try. I hope it works.

Our ORV fifth wheel has 3 valves, galley, grey and black. The galley tank is small....fills up fast. No way its more than 15 gallons. It's located up higher than the grey tank.

This will only work if both gray tanks are on the same level; mine are not.
