Adjustment of Hitch Height
Just wanting to confirm proper way to adjust hitch height. We are downsizing to a smaller 5th wheel after years in DP. Have nice 2007 Dodge diesel 2500 crew with short box- man is it tall. We bought a 2001 28.5 ft Kodiak by Peak (Canadian). Got the hitch pro installed now need to adjust height to match 5th. As I recall I need to adjust hitch so there is about 5 to 6 inches of gap from underside of front trailer cap to top of box- correct. The trailer came factory with spring over. So there is little I can do to adjust towing angle, though I do have air bags in rear of Dodge. Some one confirm??

I don't understand what it is you want to confirm other than the 6 inches of clearance. You may have to put some sort of spacer between the trailer frame and suspension in order to get the trailer to tow level (the ultimate goal).

Like MnTom said: bottom line is truck and trailer have to be close to level when hitched.
This keeps the pin weight proper, and distributes the load all over both vehicles. Trailer too high or low throws the weight of the trailer to the axels off. More tire wear, etc.

I just installed a hitch in my 04 Dodge and in the instructions it says to have 6 inches of clearance. Like said above if the trailer is not running close to level it will place more weight on one axle affecting tires, bearings and braking as well. I'm sure a little slope wouldn't be too bad but the more level the better.

Thanks guys (& gals), I checked on a number of supplier and so called experts on line and read numbers from 4" to 10" of space. I'm going to end up with 7" and luckily near level- final test tomorrow with trial hookup.

Was towing level with 5 1/2" of clearance, changed hitches to an auto slider.......raised front of trailer 5 "......to get back to level, raised pin box as high as it would go, then removed rear spacer blocks from truck rear springs, then lowered front of truck....tows level now and ride didn't change much....now have 6" bed rail clearance.....trailer has Alco IS axles, so a flip wasn't a selection I could have done, and didn't want to raise trailer and make a bigger 'sail'.......As this old Dodge is a 4x4, got rid of a lot of tire to fender clearance, which to me looks better
