Air Compressor Advice

Thinking it would be a good idea to invest in a air compressor to keep tires properly inflated. 5th wheel weighs 12,000 and 80 psi. any suggestions on what unit or size to purchase. Thanks in advance for help.

Depends on whether you are looking for 115v or 12v. The best seem to be belt driven with short "rest" times. The cheaper compressors need to rest after a short period of use. Like run for 10 minutes, rest for 30 minutes. The need to rest because the cheap ones overheat quickly.

I carry a DeWalt 165 PSI portable air compressor in the front compartment of my 5er. I use this for the TV, trailer and bike tires adjusting the pressure regulator as needed. It is a 6 gallon pancake style 115V with a 30' air hose and chuck. Wait till one goes on sale and you can get them at a reasonable price.

Depends on what your tow vehicle tires hold. Both my 5ver and tow vehicle hold 120 lbs so I purchased one of these:

They make a less expensive unit that should work well for you. I'm really impressed with the quality and compactness of this unit.

I really like this model, weighs 25# does everything I've requested. We run 115psi in the trailer tires. Then there's the truck, bikes, and EZGo cart tires.

Be well.

I'm happy with my VIAIR 12 compressor. No it won't run a nail gun, but it is very portable, small and keeps up my tires nicely. They make lots of models, get one rated for off roaders to air up and down truck tires rapidly.

I purchased a Viair 40047 400P-RV Automatic Portable Compressor Kit for my RV. It's 12 volt, has a long power cable and comes with 2 hoses. I can use it to top off my 110PSI fronts in no time. It'll run for over a 1/2 hour before having to cool down a bit.

Bolted this into my rear compartment. If I'm not plugged in I just fire up the generator to run it. The portable 12 compressors take too long.

Could not be happier with my choice! The upgraded tires on my 5vr are 125psi.
