AIR RIDE - Hitch or pin box ?
Trying to research options for my 2014 F450 , has factory puck system and is capable of towing 24,700 # so looking for a hitch rating between 25k and 30k
Looking for feedback on Air ride hitch vs air ride pin box - advantage / disadvantage , real life trials.
Thoughts?

I have a MoutainMaster 33k air ride hitch that's been in operation for 4 yrs. Has fore/aft dampening as well as side tilt and has worked flawlessly for me. Has on board compressor and small control panel with gauge mounted in cab which is nice for adjustment if desired. I went with hitch instead of pinbox as I figured I would upgrade trailers before truck, which I did.
I pull a 35' Bighorn that's rated at 14k max.

Both the air pin and air hitch cushion up and down movement. The pin does not do a great job on fore/aft chucking or side-to-side movement of the kingpin.
AirSafe makes a very good product - - - mine is 25K rated and 5K pin weight.

We have a Trailer Saver TS3 which was a few $$ I don't know how much the pin air pin boxes are. I looked for used and missed 2 on Craigslist for between $800 and $1000 less than a new TS3. Finally bought a new one thinking worst case if I have to sell it I'll only loose $1000

Hi Palmeris! I have the TrailAir Pin Box by LCI that uses the Firestone Air Bag in it to dampen the connection between trailer and truck. As far as I'm concerned it does a good job with it. I've pulled other 5er's with a regular pin box & hitch and the TrailAir is sweet. My 5er seems to just float back there. I've also pulled many gooseneck trailers in the 18 - 24k range and the TrailAir is mucher nicer than the gooseneck hookup.
Hope this helps.

I had a MM truck with the MM airride hitch. I got to say when you looked back it was doing it thing pretty nice. The truck was a Freightliner m2 which road really rough but the hitch leveled out the fifth real nice. I don't know if it was the wheelbase or the axel placement but it was rough.

I have the TrailAir BD3 from Hensley. Only rated to 18K but with dual airbags and side to side along with fore and aft movement really makes the trailer pin float. I do believe this is much better than just the air pinbox.

Air hitch stays with the truck and you ,if you sell the trailer the pin box goes with it.Also the pin box air bag is constrained by the room available in the pin box ,hitch air bags are bigger (more squish) .
Remember max air pressure is usually 100 psi, they should be used around half that or they are like a solid block of rubber.
Big heavy trailers with air pin boxes are a waste of $$ ,for them get a air hitch with multiple bags or one big one.
Air safe uses urethane blocks, they work very well and less chance of failure.
