Anderson ultimate fifth wheel hitch
hello
i new at this stuff bare with me please.
we are looking to purchase a fifth wheel very soon, and i kind of need help on a hitch set up.
so here are my questions:
if you have this style of hitch do you like it? can you turn 90 deg? does it really work in the short beds trucks? what is your take on the hitch?
2016 ford f350 6.7 crew cab
fifth wheel choices: 2018 Montana 3560rl or 2018 forest river 366rl.
thanks

This is my third year using it and so far I have no complaints. I use it in a Ram short bed with no issues at all. Can't comment on the 90 degree turn, haven't had to do that but backing into my storage spot does require a rather sharp angle and no issues yet.

Maybe a dumb question, does the Andersen ultimate hitch require you have the puck system in your bed? My Ram 2500 does not have the puck setup

Hi
Don’t know anything about the Anderson Ultimate. I have a pullrite super slide with a short bed GMC, and have not had any problems with it.
Good luck with your search for the perfect rig
 this place is great
Safe travels

I bought one and returned it because it would not adjust low enough. At it's lowest setting and with the pin box set to the highest bolt hole set I was still 2" nose high. At that setting I only had 5" clearance on the bed rails. From what I understand the new trucks are taller than my 2003 so it may be more of an issue with the later F250's.
Some will say that it is not necessary to have the camper level but it sure is nice on a quick overnight stop to not have to unhook and level.
Another issue I ran into, with the hitch set up to give the most cab clearance the pin box would hit the bed rails.
I went with the Curt A20. Not as light as the Anderson but well built and quiet.

Hi ! Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined the gang!
We pulled a 5er for 10 years before getting the MH and loved it! Hope you find the perfect rig for your needs. I don't know about the hitches that are available now.
Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

it doesn't need the puck system, but you for sure you need a goose neck hitch at the least, so you can pop you can pop you your ball into.

I want to pull the trigger on the rail style Ultimate hitch but still scared of that 40lb hitch with a ball handling our 5th wheel ha. Does anyone use the chains? Being able to remove 40lbs out of the bed vs 220LBS is big selling point to me. Is there any major chucking with the ultimate hitch?

I've had both the rail mount and the goose ball versions. They are both much quieter and smoother than the Reese hitch I used previously. Like the B&W, it adjusts from 16 to 18 inches in height. Leveling a fiver is a much as a fiver issue as a truck/hitch issue as they come in different heights.

The trailer generates the chucking forces. If you didn't have problems with chucking with your previous hitch then it is unlikely you will have any with the Andersen (Unless your previous hitch was an air hitch). Chains are required with the Andersen in some states.

No chucking bucking etc. . I do use the chains & no big deal. I use the ball style & have had several regular hitches & have no plans on going back.
I only have towed 5ers with long beds so no short bed time but can turn as sharp as you want
