Are extended warranties worth it?
I know there is a lot of "it depends" answers to this but for a small Keystone Cougar, would $3500 be worth it? I know that the warranties are a money maker and I don't generally have interest on them with a car or truck, but I'm wondering if a fifth wheel would be a different story? What's the general consensus here?

I typically avoid extended warranties due to their inflated cost and difficulty finding a repair place that accepts them. I tried them in the past and ran across a lot of issues trying to get repairs done. Not to mention all the exclusions.
Personally, I prefer to save that money and either do the work myself or find a competent mobile tech if it's beyond my capability.
They are really designed to make the seller money, just not from me lol.

The only extended warranty that has only positive reviews from everyone I know that has used it is Xtraride Platinum. We used it on our current RV. It definitely paid for itself and we used it across the country with absolutely no problems. Closest policy to a true bumper to bumper that we found. Research them.
That being said, we don't usually buy any extended warranties. Read all the fine print as most have severe restrictions. If you are handy, it is probably cheaper to fix most things yourself.

while I have no experience with Xtraride Platinum, you will find a smattering of reports for RV owners, most with information about what wasn't covered and out of pocket expenses.
I experienced this myself with a bathtub replacement. The warranty would cover 3 hours of labor total. It took over 7 hours to remove and reinstall the tub and surround. not to mention a $100.00 deductible (charge?) for each warranty visit.
Proceed cautiously. Xtraride Platinum may be an exception to the general extended warranty pool.

Yes. And I would not buy anything from the dealer you buy your RV from, unless they can make you a separate deal with Xtraride. We bought it separately.

I have NEVER, and I mean NEVER paid money to extend the warrantee on ANYTHING. Appliances, cars, tools, RV's, boats...... NONE.
Over 40 years of buying stuff I have saved so much money, including the ROI on said money, that the RV can fall apart in 10,000 pieces so I have to go an buy another one and I will still be ahead of the game.
There's a reason these companies offer these "services".
Oh, and read the fine print. Slowly, twice.

Fully agree with all the responses above. I will add my $0.02 worth;
In addition to the cost discussion above, also consider the time that will be spent in the shop since you feel compelled to get the value out of your extended warranty purchase.
A Houston dealer (Holiday World) offers a warranty that is expensive AND requires the work to be done at their store. I know several owners that feel trapped and very frustrated at the level of responsiveness/customer care for the $$$ spent.
Several of the folks I know that have extended warranties range from A)not very handy to B)very handy but have lots of expensive systems (think power management, remote control panels, dishwashers, W/D, etc) on their expensive coach.
The happiest folks I have seen purchase an extended warranty that they can take advantage of mobile techs to get the work done. The mobile tech is much more incensed to make the customer happy in terms of cost, time and satisfaction.

I checked with my buddy who got this warranty after purchase. He has used it several times (big ticket items as well) and is very happy with the price, process and flexibility.

No affiliation, just relaying what I have heard him say over the past several years.

No, you meant "Incentivized"
incentivized; incentivizing
transitive verb
: to provide with an incentive
would incentivize employees with stock options
