BATTERY CONNECTION QUESTION >>1984 Fleetwood Wilderness 5th wheel

Hi
I have a 1984 Wilderness Fleetwood 300cl 18ft 5th wheel.
I am trying to figure out the battery connections in the battery compartment.
There is a red wire with an inline fuse ( 12vdc + I an guessing)
A thin gage black wire ( 12vdc - for the wheel brakes ?????)
A thick gage black wire ( 12vdc chassis ground ????)
Two (2) thick gage white wires....no clue...???)

the wiring diagram is not much help

Any clues
Thanks

We can guess just like you. You need to trace wires to ground, or get a volt/ohm meter and test things.

Red and black wires to the positive, the 2 white wires to the negative. The wire with the fuse is probably for electric jacks. Small black is probably for the break-away switch. large black to converter and fuse panel, one white to the frame, the other white to the negative at the converter/fuse panel.

Black can be ground if done improperly, so without metering/testing, no way to know.

In 20+ years of working on campers, I've never seen a fleetwood trailer use black for anything other than +

Mods done by owner's can change that. I understand you're probably right, but we'll never know otherwise.
