If you want to play that game, I don't consider crew cab trucks real trucks. Trucks are for hauling stuff, not people. Crew cabs should be painted orange and owned only by the local highway department.

I like my short bed extended cab truck because I park places a longer truck can't, and needed a climate-controlled place for my dog. Given that I don't have a house anymore, I don't need to haul drywall or studs anymore (and even when I did, having the tailgate down for the few miles wasn't a big deal compared to being able to get it in my garage).

My short bed truck hauls my fiver with no slider, just wish I would have opted for the extra cab.

I remember some time back (been out of the 5th wheel scene for a while) when Dodge trucks would buck the passengers to death. I'm hoping those days are long gone with any manufacturer or wheelbase.
Never had an issue with this...

As for the dually/SRW debate, regardless of what the wife thinks, if you need one to carry the weight, get it! Nothing worse than being at the trucks limits or overloaded when traveling.
All I have to do is put the tailgate down and I can carry just as much lumber as you or sheet rock I had a dually and would sweat when it was tire time. Due to my wheelbase on the megacab I'm just as stable as a dually...
