Are you sure you need a slider? The curved front 5ers are designed to tow with a SB non-slider. Sliders came into vogue when we had flat fronts and non-extended pin boxes. They were needed then. I've never run a slider in 20 years of towing 5ers sith SB trucks. Gotten close to hitting a couple of times, but never got close without knowing I was close.

I've run into a number of fellow travelers who purchased spendy sliders and never use them. I'm a big fan of the B&W companion but asking what is the best is like getting into the Ford-Dodge-Chevy debate. Most of them will do the job safely.

I would tend to agree that the OP might not need a slider if his trailer front is “rounded” or whatever you call it. I spent some big bucks on a B&W Companion Slider to fit the pucks in my new F-350 shirt bed to pull our new 2019 Montana and so far, at least, I have not needed to use the slider part, but it is there if I ever need it. And yes, I am very happy with the B&W. It’s heavy (265 lbs), but solid.

If you haven’t looked at the Anderson ultimate fifth wheel hitch, at least take a look.

If it is a new %th wheel with Lipper pin box, Lipper will not honor the warranty with Anderson.

Ram 2500 short bed(6 1/2 ft) here and I don’t need the slider hitch for our 5er. B&W companion hitch has been wonderful

I have a b&w puck companion for my ram, but if doing again, I’d go with a Hensley. I have about 20k miles on my toy hauler and I underestimated the pounding the roads inflict on the trailer...

hitch

I have personally seen a 2016 Montana crunch cab and window on a truck with short bed. It was the owners 2nd time to do this to his 7month old rig. He was told he didn't need a slider but he got one after this.

Best hitch...it depends

Do you plan to use your truck bed for anything, or do you leave the hitch in the truck all the time? If you plan on using your truck for other things than hauling your 5th, then the ease of removing the hitch is important.

I have a B&W turnover ball with their Companion hitch on my F250. The lower part of it mounts under the truck bed directly to your truck frame using factory drilled holes, with a small 2" access hole through your bed to drop your Companion hitch onto. This is super sturdy and solid as a rock.

The other benefit of this setup is that I can take the hitch out of my truck in about 5 minutes. It comes out in two pieces and leaves you with a completely flat bed, with no rails in it.
