Black Tank Odor

There always seems to be an odor around the toilet. Even when the lid is down, as you enter the bathroom you can smell it. It's not the same as what you think of as a sewer odor, but it is emanating from the toilet. Could it be coming from the seal around the bottom? Or, is this typical of a fifth wheel. We didn't have this situation in our previously owned motor home. Any thoughts?

Black Tank Odor

A friend had a dometic 300. It always smelled like urine. Couldn't get rid of the smell no matter what Chems they used in the tank or how well the toilet bowl was cleaned.

One day he removed the toilet and found a location where urine was collecting over the several months they had been using it. It was a flaw in the seal of the bowl. He replaced the toilet (dometic 310) and never had the issue again.

Not typical in our 5th. Sounds like the seal.

we keep Gain liquid fabric softener in the stool at all times maybe a half inch. Keeps it sealed and helps keep stuff from sticking around.

Put 1" of water in the bowl and check it the next day. Is it still there? Or is the seal that closes off the bottom of the bowl leaking? Leaks go both ways. Also, check to see that your grey and black tank vents are not plugged somehow. Odor from the grey tank can often be mistaken for "black tank" odor.
