Boar Wheels and Tires....

Has anyone gone from their 16" tires/wheel combo (265/80 or 85R) to the Boar 19.5" wheels (225 or 245/70R) - the ones that have the same hole pattern as the 16" wheels?

Some links....

Just wondering if anyone has done this what their experience has been.

A guy that I work with swears by their wheels. He runs them on all of his goosenecks and his fifth wheel toyhauler.

In my opinion all you need is to swap to a 17.5" wheel and max 225 wide tire.

I went from a 16" load range G rated at 3800 lbs each to 17.5 rated at 4800lbs each and only a 215 wide tire. a 31" tall tire is what I decided rather then 245/70 /19.5" at 34.5" tall.

I had Morryde add a steel tube under the redwood frame so it rides level with IS and newer truck bed heights.

I thought if I went to the 17.5" wheels I would have to change my hubs/rotors to fit the 17.5" wheels. That was the attraction with the Boar wheels - they fit on the 16" hubs/rotors/drums. Did you have to make those changes?

I have an appointment with MorRyde (way off, but I have one) and was hoping to re-use my disc brakes.

There is NO reason to change hubs to fit 17.5 wheels OR 19.5 wheels. You can find at a minimum 10 different aluminum wheels to work with your current brakes and bolt pattern and they will be forward compatible with MorRyde IS. I have Alcoa aluminum 17.5 x 6.5" wide wheels with Sailun 637 tires. Do some reading you will find the Goodyear 114 tire or the sailing 637 are the two best tire choices. Near zero tire failure on heavy trailers. The Sailun you can get from simpletire.com

If you have any questions on if you can stop in a panic with drum brakes GET the disk brakes. I have Kodiac so I can get pads off the shelf , there a GM truck oem part. I would do the disks and Morryde on any trailer over 15,000 lbs no questions!

I have the Sailun 637s on stock rims and they have worked well in 4" of snow, heavy rain and lots of wind. This is the 1st year on them but so far zero complaints. As for disc brakes, I dd that a couple years back on my 14K 5W. I will never own a 5W over 10K with out them, best mod you can make. Brakings night & day different and I don't wonder if I'll stop when some idiot has to be in front of the RV.

Thanks everyone..... I guess I should have looked at the 17.5" wheels for myself; I asked a friend and he insisted they wouldn't fit my hubs. I should have known better.

I currently have the 637's too and they have served me well.

What got me to questioning whether I should change brands actually was some folks over on the Montana owners forum (not they forum) who had some bad experiences recently with the Sailuns manufactured in Vietnam. Mine are 2019 tires from China.

In the end, I think I may just stick with the Sailuns when I need tires again and just move up to the '85' profile. I think I mentioned I'll be at MorRyde in about a year for the IS upgrade and will get new tires then.

Thanks again. I don't think it's worth upgrading to 17.5" or 19.5" based on what you've all said.
