Brake Light Bulbs

A shot in the dark here... does anyone on here own a Keystone Montana that is around an 2006? I want to change the brake/turn signal lights to LED. I went to where I have it stored over the weekend & took the lens off but that is as far as I got due to the pouring rain. There are two bulbs. One appears to be for brake & turn signal & the other small one probably just a marker light. I can look into it more whenever I bring it back to my work but I would like to get some LED's ordered if someone on here knows the exact size of all the exterior lights.

Dual filament bulb is a 1157 base
Single filament is a 1156 base.
Did you check light function by turning on the lights?
For example, our Foretravel has the dual filament bulb acting as brake/running light and the single filament bulb is the turn signal bulb.
I doubt very much that you would have a "marker" light in the taillight cluster.

By the quick look I took I could tell the large bulb is a duel filament bulb. Looks like & is most likely the 1157 that you mentioned. The little one is one of those press in bulbs which is probably something like a 194. It is located around the side of the lens. Would be a weird spot for a turn signal light but possible. I haven't check the function of these lights since the last time I took the trailer out. Probably going to have to just take a closer look the next time I get it into our shop here at work.
Thanks though.

From this shot of a 2007, that wraparound lens most likely has just an 1157 for stop/tail/turn, and the little wedge base, which is probably under 5W, is the side marker light. Assuming yours is similar, of course.

It's generally recommended to use red LED bulbs behind red lenses.

Yes that is the exact lens that is on mine. Since the miniature bulb was around the side of the lens I kind of thought it was a marker light as well.
After you take the lens off there is another cutout for another bulb. Most likely was an option for reverse lights on some models. That would be handy on those nights of getting to the campsite late. Someday I might rig up some LED flood lights below the bumper when my truck goes into reverse. Also have some LED's in the headache rack on my truck that need to be hooked up. Ultimately I would like to get to the campsite before dark but sometimes it can't be helped due to traffic or breakdowns.

Or a rear foglight, if the trailer is also sold in Europe. But reverse lights sounds most likely. Would require a lens with a clear window, though.

I have a narrow light bar I use on the leg of the outboard on my boat, since the trailer lights are tucked pretty far under the hull, and I added a backup light to it. Very handy when backing into a slot at some marina at the end of a long drive.

All my lights work I just want to replace them all with LED's. I was wanting to know if anyone knew the exact bulbs so I could order the LED version & have them the next time I bring it into the shop.

You don’t need red LEDs behind a red lens. If that were the case the file t bulb would have been red also. I replaced the twilight and brake/turn signal builds in my pickup with Sylvania LEDs and they look just like the original bulbs. I replaced them because when I tow it behind my coach the incandescent builds flashed too slow and therefor barely lit so folks behind me couldn’t tell very easily that I was turning or changing lanes. Switching to LEDs made a world of difference. I had to also add resistors so my flasher would function normally. If I had a trailer or 5er once of the first improvements I would do is to change the taillight bulbs to LED so others could see me better and faster.

This is the reason I would like to upgrade. Just want everybody behind me to know what I am doing. The Sylvania LED's that I bought for my truck (from Wal Mart I think) sucked! They were no brighter than the originals so I took them back & bought some different ones off of Amazon.

But unlike incandescent bulbs, which burn at around 2700K, LEDs come in many color temperatures and spectrum distributions. Putting a 6000K LED behind a red lens may result in a weird rose-pink center, or even a bit purple in appearance when there is an excess of blue from the bulb, or varying color across the lens. You don't have to use a red (or amber for front, or rear turn) LED if you use the right one, but you can't go wrong if you do.

Yes this is what I have found over the years of converting over to LED's.

Brake Light Bulbs

Thanks for clarifying Kanskran. I understand your point now
