Break Away Cable

Where do you all clip your break away cable to? On my old rail system I drilled a hole & installed a large stainless steel eyelet in the rail. New truck will have the puck system so I will not have the rails. Might be able to install another eyelet somewhere on this new hitch but I just wanted to see where everyone else was connecting to.

looped over handle... Ours is a pullrite autoslider so it needs to stay clear of the head and rails. If I have to tie it to base it gets caught. Inside truck box same issue.

I attach it to the pin that goes through the B&W hitch handle.

Side note….. if you haven’t already done so, I’d suggest slipping a piece of hose or plastic wire loom over the cable as a sleeve to increase the diameter enough that the cable can’t get caught between hitch & truck bed (whether puck mount or rail mount) during a sharp turn. It is possible to pull the cable in this manner and learn that the brakes do work rather quickly. Guess how I learned this….

I have a 6' spiral cord that can be pull and it retracts so its strait all the time , its hooked in the bed tie down in the bed corner. I have never had it un-plug its self in a turn. I always have tools and stuff between the hitch and tailgate.

If you have a toolbox in the bed of your truck, here is a simple/effective way to attach.....Simply drill a hole through the box and put an eye bolt to attach to.

That's exactly how I did it through the hitch rails. There is a reason why I haven't used the lower bed tie down. Just can't remember why. Old age!
I really like the spiral chord. Might just get me one of those.

Contrary to what some say, DO NOT loop the cable over any part of the hitch. Attach the cable to the truck.
