Broken Hehr Double Pane Window

So, last night, after a long travel day, I was focused on the rear of the fifth wheel where I usually have stuff get stuck in the slides, while running the slides out. I didn't see that the bottom of the MCD shade was sitting against a front slide out window, and as a result it got stuck between the wall and the window. As a result, I now have a broken outer pane of glass.

The glass didn't shatter completely, so I taped it up with clear packing tape to keep it together, and it's still mostly intact - just shattered.

What's the best way to go about getting this replaced? I'm currently in Austin, Texas, and will be headed to northern Alabama thru either Dallas or Houston in a week or so. Full time with dogs, so prefer not to leave it at a dealer.

I would suggest a glass dealer who specialize in Auto glass repair.

You could also contact Cedar Creek to see if they know where you can get a replacement window. I would go to the Contact page for Forest River, click on fifth wheels and than go to the Cedar Creek page looking at the service contacts.

I have used these pages for help on my 2016 Cedar Creek last year. They came through for me.

Contact Duncan systems in Elkhart .Give them your vin they will send you one made to order. Don't even bother with glass companies or auto glass or whomever made your rv . I know l have been there. Easy to replace . Just take out screws and push out. Comes with sealant already on. Just push it in and put the trim and screws in . They are easy to work with. Mine was about $500. You have to replace the whole window. They will ship it anywhere you want. They also install. Google them.

When we had a broken window, the most cost effective route was from the manufacturer. They had the exact window in stock. It was about half the price of having one made and shipped.

Outstanding, we bought a lot about 15 miles away from there (Windemere RV Resort, Langston AL). I go to the park to golf all the time. Hopefully it will stop raining for a while to dry out when you get here.

Interesting observation for the "Are double pane windows worth it" questions. It's cold here in Austin. I have never experienced condensation in my RV in the two years of living it in. Today - there is condensation on the window with the broken outer pane. None on the rest of the windows.

Don't try local glass houses! Had a single pane breakage. They wanted 450 plus installation. Bought plexiglass from Lowes that match original tint and cut to size with rounded corners ourselves for $35.

When my window shattered on my previous Cedar Creek I used the vin number, but they sent the wrong window, so I had to remove the old one, and get the code off of the frame. New exact window came, and took 30 minutes to install.
This was 6 months out of warranty, and no charge.

What did you use to glue it on the frame? This might be a good temporary fix till I get to Suncoast, where I'm getting some fogged panes fixed.

Cost to get one from the factory and ship it to me is more than I'm willing to pay, and Duncan has yet to quote me.

Don't mean to hi-jack this thread, My rear 4x4 window is thermo not broken but has a seal failure with fog inside. Discovered a replacement is north of 800 dollars. Being thrifty and a DIY'r I'm thinking of removing it and splitting the window panes and cleaning the inside surfaces. RV's don't have gas inside dual pane glass. Anybody out there that have done this.

Clear silicone, use blue tape to hold it in overnight until dry.
