Buying a fifth wheel
I am thinking about giving my 29' travel trailer to my son and getting a different one or may be a used fifth wheel. Tell me why I would like a fifth wheel over a travel trailer some thing around 30/32 feet in length. I have the truck that is set up for ether one.

30/32 foot 5th wheel? Do they make them that small anymore? If that is what size then stick with the bumper pull. Now if you are going to be pulling a boat behind then by all means a 5th wheel is hands down the better option. I pulled a 30ft 5th wheel with a 21ft. bass boat behind it all over the Midwest without any problems.......

TT to 5th Wheel
We went from a 30’ tt to a 32’ 5th wheel (now have a 43’ 5th wheel). I can tell you what we liked. Everything. Handling, towing, cornering, backing, stability on the road when those tractor trailers blow by; basement storage, did I say stability? You will love the 5th wheel pin over the hitch and stabilizer. Plus, let your son have that TT and start his own family memories. Very nice gesture and I’m sure deeply appreciated!

We recently moved from a 35' TT to a 40' 5er. In addition to those items mentioned above, I would add
-Easier access to plumbing and subsystems in the basement
-Faster to set up (Wife can manage the front jacks and rear jacks (both electric) while I am hooking up water/power. She used to have to wait for me to finish with the drill/jacks on the TT.
-WAY MORE comfortable
-Substantially more space to move around due to different layout limitations (more than just the incremental 5')
Check out Grand Design for the size you are looking for. I know several who are happy with that brand/layout/value in that size range.

I went from a 30' bumper pull to a 30' 5er and there are alot of differences, I have head room now, the ceiling is not just above my head, it pulls so much better, with the same vehicle. I did opt for the Goosebox on my 5er which is air ride, I have to check the mirror sometimes just to make sure its still back there. I love it. You will not regret it.

Thanks for the reply's I am going to go look at a few 5th wheels in the next week or so. I like the ones with the two slide outs so I guess we will see what we find.
Thanks

I would strongly recommend a 5er! We made the upgrade 2 yrs. ago from a wiggle waggle ( tow behind) and have loved it ever since. Beside the ease of towing, we have more room. We looked at many 5er's and concluded that for us, just me and my wife and one small Jack Russel, the Jayco HT series was all that we needed. It is the 28.5 series. I don't know if that one is made any longer,, I believe it is now a 30 series. Beautiful coach, and we have had very little problems.

I have to agree 5th wheels pull & have more room then TT. I've owned four different ones & looking at getting another. Look at Grand Design as they make them in the size range your thinking about. Don't be shy about looking used. For the same $ of a new GD we are looking at used Mobile Suites.

Just my option but fifth wheels are not only safer to pull but you have more turning radius to work with when maneuvering in parks. On a bumper pull, you have the added expense of a trailer stabilization system.

Just purchased a grand design 337RLS and it's just beautiful all around. They have a 303RLS 33 feet take a look I believe you will agree.

After 2+ years of watching travel trailers wig-waggling across the United States, and witnessing 3 travel trailer related accidents, 5th wheel absolutely every time.
I enjoy watching my 5th wheel in the side view mirror do....nothing. solid and steady as a rock, on cruise at 75mph....

In the past between owning a few different truck campers, we had a 26' Nash travel trailer.
This past winter we bought a barely used '16 Cougar 25RKS that is 27'-2" long.
Wife wanted a couch, dry bath and an easy to get into bed. I wanted a truck/trailer combo that was as short as possible since we don't tend to stay more than 1-2 days in any one location and maneuverability was my priority. Our truck/trailer combination is 42' overall.
What has been posted about much better handling of a 5th vs. a TT is spot on.
Maneuvering in tight areas is much easier. Even with my short bed, I can have the truck turned 90 degrees to the trailer. Out on the road there is zero tail wagging the dog that we used to feel with the TT, even with the TT WDH and sway control.
