In kind of in the same boat as O.P...

Current 15' F250 (6.2) with 37'/#7000lb TT... Will be upgrading to a MidBunk 5er (Laredo 380mb) soon - most around #15k max loaded with 2500+ pin.. I think I could get away with a F350 long bed swd. -- I'm focusing on a DRW however just 2 be safe .... big difference in max 15,100 vs. 20k+ !!! If you can swing the dually I'd do it ....

I think its just gonna be a reality

the price difference between SRW and DRW is negligible, its the extra rear axle width when not towing I'm not thrilled about.

thanks for all the commentary so far btw

I just upgraded to a Silverback 37MBH with a GVW of 16,000 and Pin of 2,100. Knowing I will "fill it up" and want to use the bed of the truck for additional cargo I went with a 3500 Duramax and Dullies. My thought is that I would rather have enough truck and deal with the wider back end then be over weight and have the tail waging the dog.

We have a 29-5t Arctic Fox loaded for full timing with a washer/dryer but no generator. The trailer scales about 14500# with a pin weight of 3300#. This combo has about 23% on the pin.

By The Numbers - Part 1, GVWR and Pin Weight

I'm at 22%, 3920 with an 18000 GVWR! My actual weight is 17,460! I'd figure at least 20%!

Here is a easy site to use and even has how much will pin be using dry weights and comes really close. There are exceptions like rear kitchens and toy haulers but standard floor plans are close.

I have a dually and cannot understand how or why people tow with single rears..much less 3/4ton trucks with bags to hold them up. Dually 1 tons are just so much more stable when towing. I have towed with both and won't tow anymore without a dually. My friends decided to get a new trailer and truly regret not buying a dually when he bought a new truck a year earlier..
you get used to driving a dually, just like anything else. I'd rather be overrated than underrated when towing.

Well.......there's one opinion. I don't understand why anyone buys a dually. If you need a dually, you would be much better served with a Class 8 tractor. Stops much better and is just so much more stable. You get used to driving a Class 8 tractor just like anything else.

Nothing safer or better for towing than a Class 8 tractor....much better to be really overrated than just barely overrrated.

I have a 3500 SRW and tow 14K 5vr .....steady, no white knuckle rides, handles great......because I paid attention and matched truck/rig

CAT Scaled 5vr 13,873# with a wet pin weight of 3130#........22.7%

5vrs......20% - 25%
TTs........10% - 15%

I use the higher percentage and GVWR for matching truck to trailer.
If trucks ratings can handle the higher % you have 'safety margin' vs 'just enough'
