Not necessarily... depending on what truck he has & how it is configured. In '06 GM 2wd 3/4 ton diesel had a max 5th wheel tow rate of 16,100 Ram 13,650, & Ford 16,500.

Tow Rating was a Marketing HYPE

OPs 2006 250/2500 SRW does NOT have the RAWR to CARRY the wet pin of that 14,500 5vr.
PERIOD

I have a Titan xd with the Cummins. I can pull right at 14k. My 5'er fully loaded is about 12.5k. Never had an issue and it's the best truck I've ever pulled a trailer with.

What are the AXLE Ratings as posted on Data Sticker on door jamb?

FAWR.... 4900#
RAWR....4900#

Or do you have something different>
Curb is 2840# on rear.....2060# Total weight on rear axle before exceeding RAWR

12.5k 5vr....pin weight is MORE then your Nissan can carry
14k....not even close

Ever been across a set of SCALES?

I can get Nissan XDs for rediculously low cost. Cheap. Cheap. They also have about the same power as my old 6.0 powerstroke.

After discussions with Nissan Engineering (really) it was determined the powertrain/drivetrain could easily tow our 16k 5th wheel - however the frame could not handle the increase in payload - the trucks failed durability testing around 200k miles due to metal fatigue/cracking at those weights. Remember this is nearly 50% higher then the manufacturer rated payload and towing #s, and after a "lifetime" of miles.
There is a lot more to towing and payload ratings then "well, it tows fine"

I bought my 2017 F-350 for this reason - trust me, financially I would have loved to go TitanXD

Well even with your 2017 F350 SRW and 11,500# GVWR and likely 7,000# rear axle rating you are pushing the limits of your TV for carrying capacity.

Thanks
What year truck? Without knowing all the facts, I'd say "probably not".

Don't trailers have their own brakes? If they're maintained and working properly, you shouldn't even feel a push or pull when stopping. If the brakes fail, you're pretty much SOL with =any= pickup and FW/trailer of even moderate weight.

You can drive that 3/4 ton to the dealer of your choice and trade it in for a 1 ton dually.
