Carrying Kayak and towing 5th Wheel
I have a 2016 Chevy Silverado crew cab standard 6' box.
I am debating whether to get a kayak. I've seen these on top of trucks. Does the rack attach easily to the truck without drilling.
If I have a 10-11' kayak on a roof rack, how much affect does it have on the kayak when traveling at 60 mph. If the kayak extends 3-4' in front of the rack, does it hurt the kayak? Seems over a period of time there might be some stress issues.
Also how is the wind noise inside the truck?

Looking forward to the feedback on this one. Have thought about doing the same on mine - we have cheap sit in kayaks that we carry to lakes and rivers sometimes and would like to have a better way to carry them.

The complete system is not cheap, but you can start out here:
https://yakima.com/products/baseline-system OR
https://www.thule.com/en-us/roof-rack/car-roof-racks
You will have to build the system you want. Pick the style of crossbars, then select the Carriers.
These system offers more options (Bikes, Ski Racks, Cargo Boxes than the next option.
Or go this route which will use the hitch on the back of the trailer:

I just haven't decided yet. Would be so much easier if the wife would just get comfortable with an inflatable kayak.

I carried a canoe for several years. I used a Yakima rack on top of my crew cab and put the stern of the canoe about 6" to the front of the fifth wheel. It looked too close, and could have possible hit when backing, but I also would have hit the truck cab since I also had a short box. Check with your kayak builder to see if they recommend car top carry.

Thanks for the info
Still looking for a kayak. Will probably put a roof top carrier so we can take when we tow the 5th wheel

I have carried 2 10' kayaks up top using the Thule system. Those kayaks have been on a roof for over 50k miles without issue.

We have a two person inflatable Intex K2 kayak that stores in a box in the bed of the truck.
It's not as nice as a rigid kayak but easy to travel with and we enjoy it.

Take a look at Rhino Rack. I have used these on top of 2500HD cab to carry 2 Kayaks without problems. I did use 2 step ladders and two people to lift the kayaks on top of cab.
I now have a 3500Hd, kept the Rhino Rack bars but have not installed them yet. I’m also considering a YakRak for the back of 5er.

I have carried a tandem Kyack on the roof of my truck ( f250 crew cab) to Florida and back many times (more miles on the roof than in the water) I built a wooden rack that goes in the front stake pockets of the truck to rest one end of the kyack on and used a large pool noodle under the front of the kyack to protect the roof. Strap the back end to the wooden rack, run ropes from the front of the kyack to the front tow hooks of the truck and use a ratchet strap around the kyack thru the back doors of the truck. The kyack never moved and doesn't seem to effect the handling of the truck
