Had a DP for 11 years and loved it. Thank goodness for the extended warranty, it saved us a pile of $$$! We're on our second TT (see my sig) and just upgraded the truck in anticipation of a 5th wheel later this year or next in order to fulltime.

I didn't switch from a DP but a 36' gasser. The functional living space IMO is 10x better. I got a diesel truck and I honestly can't even tell I'm towing so that part is similar.

There are pros/cons to both I guess, but overall I'm happy with the switch because now I'm just maintaining 1 vehicle instead of 2.

If you switch to a FW you'll definitely want to find one that has auto leveling jacks. It makes setup time nearly as quick as the class A.

Also in mine at least the fridge is not accessible unless you move the slide out. So you might want to invest in a good cooler to take in the truck since it wont be quite as easy to just pull over and make a snack.

Then again you can always just open the slide that's not a real big deal.

The only thing I'm still trying to figure out is installing a generator. Esp for the hot times of the year I want to be able to fire up the AC while I travel so that when I get to my destination it's already cool.

That takes some figuring, but it's a solve able problem.

I do miss some things about the class A, but overall the FW is far more economical, easier to navigate with, and a much more comfortable living area.

I can use the bath ,fridge and stove in mine . Either has pluses and minuses. I like a 5er since l have plenty of uses for my truck when home.

We are looking at doing the same thing. Our S&B is going on the market in three weeks (time enough to finish decluttering and deciding what is going into storage versus what goes to the local thrift store or trash and what will actually go with us).

We currently have a 2001 38 ft DSDP and while it would work, keeping two vehicles mechanically sound is expensive when one is a DP.

We've been looking at one ton diesel P/U trucks as the tow vehicle cause the 5th Wheel in top spot at the moment is a Keystone Montana 3791RD. We like the layout best. Just need to see one in person.

A new DP single rear axle is $250k at least.

A brand new dually truck high trim level is 70k and a brand new very nice 5th wheel 100k

A new dually truck pulling a 5th wheel will go down the road really great. Lots of pulling power that can go up mountains easy.

But either way you can be comfotable.

We went from a motor home to a fifth wheel. We loved the motor home while traveling but since most of our time was spent stationary at our destination we feel the decision to switch to the more home like fifth wheel was more suited to us. I wouldn't hesitate buying another motor home if I knew the majority of the time I would be traveling.
