Really.. what trailer does my brother have?

Isn't a 5th wheel still considered a trailer?

I am not sure where you expect to make your purchase, but if you are anywhere near Chatanooga Tenn. Stop by the Camping World and let Ralph give you a driving lesson in a DP. I am sure there are other as well qualified if you ask. My wife was very nervous driving our rig when we first got it. After a 30 minute session with Ralph she was driving down narrow streets lined with cars with no fear and has now driven over 10,000 miles as we travel. We trade off driving every hour or so and on our last trip, she managed to be driving on the worst parts of the road (1000 ft climb singe lane with no guard rail for example).

One benefit of driving a DP is that you are sitting above the cars and can see much farther down the road. This way you can see traffic problems long before you can in a pickup and the overall size of the DP and Fiver are about the same.

One word of caution. If you choose a fifth wheel, be sure to get a tow vehicle that is big enough to carry the load. It is scary to be following a fiver in even a light wind where they have skimped on the tow vehicle. I watched one swing left then right then lay on the side sliding down the expressway. Thankfully it was on the other side from me and no one was hurt.

Have fun choosing your vehicle. There really is no bad choice only various shades of fun. Perhaps we will see and your DH on the road soon.

Don't be afraid of that big DP .Hang around a local school (not too close) and watch the typical driver -elderly, blue hair, etc ,if they can do it so can you.
I do it (no hair at all) with 50 boisterous kids and city traffic, but I would rather drive my truck and trailer because they bend in the middle ,but a large long motor home will quickly become second nature .
Look forward to a new skill.
