Connector on start motor capacitor

I have a dometic A/C and the motor start capacitor burnt, along with one connector on the common lead. It isnt a regular connector so I am guessing it might be some sort of resistor or heat dissipator ????

I am hoping someone will know what it actually is and i am hoping, if successful, i can post a picture of it as well. (It used to be encased in some black plastic, but that melted beyond all recognition)

That might be all that's left of a PTCR, which is common on those type of units. A PTCR is a resistor with low resistance until it heats up, then the resistance goes way up, effectively cutting the start capacitor out of the circuit, leaving only the run capacitor, which is always in the circuit. The PTCR is often mounted right on the start capacitor.

If that's what it was.

*Positive Temperature Coefficient Resistor

More than likely.

If you order a kit which includes the PTCR with the start capacitor, it 'should' include that wire and connectors.

Thumbs up PTCR

Thanks for the replies and PTCR is correct!

I had not seen one before and I have ordered one.

Dometic quit making this particular capacitor so I needed to order one with the same specs, which of course did not come with a PTCR. Just waiting on the PTCR to arrive.

I appreciate the help.

'til next time, Happy Rv-ing!
