The DW and I just bought a 31' Wildcat, but we also looked at the Cougar and the Laredo. We really talked a lot about which brand was supposed to have better quality, and what we saw.
Jayco Eagle is supposed to be a brand that is built by the Amish. They even show Amish workers in their brochures. Then we walked into an Eagle fiver and the medicine cabinet is 2" off level and the door won't close. It's all marketing hype.
We decided to look at the individual features of every unit and we bought the unit that fit our lifestyle better. We liked the Wildcat better than the Couger, but the Couger had some great features. We did look these things over extensively before we bought. If you really look at the details, you can get a pretty decent idea if a unit is made well or not.
As far as distance, I wouldn't even think twice about driving the extra distance to get what you want. We first looked at the Wildcats at a local dealer, but they were really greedy. WE drove 60 miles away to get the same unit for about $2K less, and I am very glad we did it.
