Internet, smart TV. Cheaper initially and monthly, no set up, no commercials.

I don't think either one is better then the other.
I'm using a DirecTV only, King Quest, with a controller box from King.
It gets the 3 Dish satellites and works fine with a Wally receiver.

This, unless you're like me and like to just veg out and watch TV and switch between 3 or 4 different things like I do. I need cable or satellite so on random days I can watch whatever.

Technically speaking the Tailgater has a larger parabola providing a little more signal, other than that doesn't really matter.

No, the Pathway X2 has a bigger dish. The X2 can also acquire both of DISH's sat "arcs" (Western & Eastern). The Tailgater can only get the Western Arc sats.

So Playmaker and Tailgater only receive Western Arc?? Is there a choice of Dish or DTV? I have DTV at home

You can get Direct or Dish. But their is no HD portable dish for Direct. Several for Dish. You could roof mount a dish for Direct for HD.

First question: where do you plan on traveling to, what locations? Answer this question can help you decide which unit to purchase.
For example if you are going to both east & west coast or north to Maine find a unit that can be used in the locations. If I remember from my research the PathwayX2 was the only one which would do all of this.
But if you are just going "Down the road a bit".
Just a thought

I guess maybe another question could be is , what states or time zones does the Eastern Arc begin? I get what your saying, but if we venture further East, it would be obvious to get a system that covers both. Would South Dakota be Eastern Arc?
