GM gives your truck a 6200 RAWR. The trucks rear axle can weigh in the 2800-3000 lb range leaving over 3000 lb in the bed payload. Actual scaled axle weights tells the real story.
One of my trucks is a '03 2500 Dodge/Cummins with a 6000 rawr. I scale all my trucks front and rear axles , that way I know how much weight I can safely/legally carry. This trucks rear axle weighs 2860-2880 lbs which leave's it also with over 3000 lb in the bed payload. Typical 3/4 ton truck weights.
Right now it has my 11200 lb 5th wheel trailer hooked up and ready to go. The truck rear axle weight is in the 5200-5400 lb range depending on how much stuff the wife packs for our 3 week trip . Going to the mountains where its cooler.
Some folks stress out for exceeding a trucks tire placard payload sticker....or a GVWR number....or a GCWR number....or some sort of percentage of a gross weigh/other numbers. Just stay under any trucks GAWRs and in particular its RAWR as its carrying all the load in the bed.

Totally contrary to what EVERY SINGLE TRUCK manufacturer tells you..."Never Exceed Any of the Rated Load Capacities"........guess they just put that statement in every single owner's manual of every single truck to take up some of the pages and give you more to read!

From a standpoint of things you can be cited for by a dot officer or held legally accountable for hes correct. If you want your warranty intact youre correct. Stop watching btbrv.

You should be okay--but about max'd out.
I would suggest taking measurements on the height of the bumper. And stand back and look at your truck to see if there's any squat after hooking up to the fiver.
My 3/4 ton when hooked up to a heavier 323BHS doesn't squat at all. I did go ahead and invest in a set of AirLift 5000 air bags and a TruCool tranny cooler, however. I too am max'd out.

Are you going to place 1 Ton of “stuff” in your fiver when towing? I don’t think so. The elaborate calculations in an earlier post have you doing that. Pack sensibly and you’ll be fine.

I have no idea what "btbrv" is, so there's a very good chance I'm not watching it.......whatever it is!

It's a Lippert frame. I don't think there's anything proprietary about the pinbox.

Great thread. Negotiating a purchase on this model trailer right now as well. Thanks for sharing! We need this advise as well, for we have yet to get our truck.

Do a search for excessive warning labels!!
One of my favs is
"Insulin can cause low blood sugar".
Also.
"Do not grab chain saw chain while it is moving"

I love the ones on a blender that say not to stick your hands in the augers. They make the warnings for a reason. Im not talking a countertop blender, the frac blender.

Make sure the goosebox will mate to your frame. My 2011 Jayco has a wierd Dexter size mount and either size goosebox won't work.

Thank you to those who took time to provide their honest feedback. While we've been looking at the 290BH we've also been looking at it's little brother the 285BHTS. It's the 35' travel trailer version in almost the same floorplan. The bunk house isn't as roomy but still better than what we have now. It's also going to give us enough margin of safety regards to payload and keeping us under GVWR.
Thanks again, love the passionate opinions of this forum... is why I keep coming back!

I would assume you would be over your payload limit by the time you load everything to the trailer and truck. There is a real tendency to cram that front storage compartment full.
I wouldn’t consider a 1/2 ton for such a load. All the components in a 3/4 or 1 ton are much heavier than the smaller 1/2 ton. Just look at the suspension components and the brakes also. Try pulling the wheels off and you will be surprised at the fragile looking spindles on the 1/2 ton lightweight.
You should be concerned with all the limits suggested by the manufacturer. They are the ones that have teams of engineers to design their products.
