We carried a folding ladder - you always need to get on the roof for SOMETHING -if nothing else to get a bit of maintenance done, or to brush the roof of the slides off from the pine needles. There's a reason everyone has one.

I carry an a-frame extending ladder similar to a Little Giant (from Home Depot, lighter weight and less money) It is less than 4 foot long and 8 inches deep when folded. I built a platform in my front bay at the same elevation as my frame rails to store, and the slide out trey is still usable under it. I use it to clean the windshield and to access the upper half of the rear ladder for roof access (I no longer carry the lower half of the rear ladder as it is not needed with the a-frame) I am amazed how much I use it.

I carry a 3’ step ladder for getting in and out of the truck bed with the tailgate down. Use it for cleaning windows on the TT and checking under the hood of the truck. Also carry a 14’ collapsible ladder for repairing things like clearance lights, repairing moldings etc. The 14’ doesn’t get used a lot but appreciate having it when I need it. The 3’ ladder gets used at every stop.

In about 50K miles of traveling with 2 fivers have only needed a step laccer one time and that was to fix the broken hinge on a fire escape window. I just backed the truck close and worked from there. I do have one while at the summer seasonal site for wash and waxing along with getting on the roof if necessary instead of using the OEM supplied weakling. It's a Werner 13 foot telescoping ladder and is not only jeavy but takes lots of space that can be used or other stuff. Previous 5wers and TTs, never carried one then either.
My choice, other have their needs

I have the one that collapses into a 4" square. It actually fits inside the 4" bumper.

Yepper....a LittleGiant collapsible....lays down in the pass thru storage bay...about 7 inches high 5 ft tall collapsed...folds out and up to over 12ft....MANY uses....use almost every trip....very safe for all purposes...a tad pricey but heck you only are buying one for your lifetime....

I carried one for many years - loaned it to others more than I used it myself. Don't remember using it more than twice.

Guess I'm the odd one as I have a LCI rack across the back with a generator and 8ft A frame strapped to the RV latter. I use it all the time to step up onto the RV latter, wash windows, blow off slide tops, wash & wax the RV. The 8ft lets me reach everything from the roof down.

One of the best ways for me to make DW extra happy camping is to clean the windows. Easy enough job with our previous TT. Now with the fiver (with tons of windows) I need help getting up to them.
Also our stove vent is too high for me to reach and open/latch without a ladder.
I bought a used one that is the type that will fit in a tube or vinyl fence post, and still need to install that. The seller was going from a Class A to a fiver and wanted the other collapsing style.
Best regards,
Chris
