DRV - Full House JX450 and LX450 pin weight and generator Q

Well, I was run out of the ORV forum...whoops

Hey, Are there any owners of DRV LUXURY SUITES FULLHOUSE JX450 or LX450 toy haulers here? What is your actual pin weight. What is the weight of your toys?

I plan on carrying a 900 pound motorcycle. Maybe two at times.

Does the generator carry the necessary load when shore power is not available? I see that these have three 15kw ac units. I am not sure the Onan 5.5 generator can handle all three running. So how does the load center manage it.

We are looking at options for a new toyhauler. This could be our last toyhauler.

Just started researching these. Hoping the luxury models are well built as the price suggests.

I dont think a 5.5 can power more then 2 AC units. I think a upgrade to the 6.5 would be a min. They may have power management where it shuts off one unit at a time and lets the other two run.

DRV are heavy on the pin you will need a DRW truck for sure. If its not factory equiped with Morryde IS you may want to give that a good look , many if not most DRV have MorRyde IS . Its a must have upgrade at 15,000lbs + in my mind.

Thanks for the confirmation on the generator.

I've got a 2020 RAM 3500 HO diesel DRW. I need the pin weight below 5000.

Basic math shows you may not have enough truck for the pin weight.

23,000lbs x 23% for pin weight = 5290lbs
these trailers are 19,000 empty from the factory. two bikes in the garage will reduce you pin weight some . Keep in mind you need to factor for hitch weight and extra fuel tank if you have one.

Also the generator typically sits in the front basement near the pin box so that adds roughly 60% of that weight to the truck. Every option in the RV will add or subtract weight depending on where its located.

I am assuming DRW means dual rear wheels and SRW means single rear wheels?

Is DRV's new owner building to the quality that the old owner built?

290 over pin weight is really not a problem . You put those bikes in the back and that will mitigate pin weight to a degree if your water is back there fill it that will take more off the pin . If not then just run with a small amount . Just try to keep everything you can towards the rear . Those three acís never run all three at the same time . The system shifts from one to another . But l would still get the 6500 .

I am fully aware of the pin weight formula. I was asking for real scale weights from folks who actually brown the units.

There are a couple of DRV / Mobil Suites forums on the internet as well as a couple of very active Facebooks groups. I would recommend that you post your questions there and you will get answers from folks that have the units that you are looking at. I have met several DRV toy hauler owners And they all tow with 350 / 3500 duallys with no issues. I know one owner in Dallas that has a JX450 with 3 15KW AC units and the Oman 5.5KW generator. He claims that the Benny handles the load just fine. You will have a triple axel set up which will lighten the pin weight significantly.

I've found the ones not on Facebook. Upper end toyhaulers apparently do not sell as well as regular upper end 5vers.

DRV Owners Group on Facebook, DRV/SOITC as well. Both are the most active places for DRV owners.

My 2018 JX450 scales at 21k empty, 4500 pin. Loaded it is around 25k/5k pin - no generator, no real "toy" in the garage. Scaled with about 30 gallons of water in the tank. No generator. If I put gas in the tanks, pin weight goes down, but I haven't scaled it that way.

5.5 Onan will only do one AC, unless you have no other electrical going, or you put soft starts on.

The load center does not manage generator power - it assumes that if there's a generator running, there's enough power. It senses 240 across L1/L2 on shore power input to determine 50/30 amp. If no 240 - then it goes to 30 amp, and you can select 20 from there.

You can special order 7-8KW gas or diesel generators - those will run all three.
