DRV Surge Protectors

After reading the article about surge protectors, it got me to thinking about our future setup, especially with the electrical problems we're having on our truck. We have a 2016 DRV on the way, and we opted for the power management system, the "surge protector with voltage protection and remote display" and the Onan 5500 with auto-changeover. Will their surge protector be sufficient or should I look into a secondary system?

A bit more info would help. What kind of surge protector i.e., Progressive, and there are others, what model? If it is a Progressive HW50c with a auto switch over for the generator, your good to go.

The build sheet doesn't specify manufacturer or anything like that, just what I have in quotations above. I'll try calling the rep tomorrow and see if I can get more information.

Any DRV owners with this option that could help out?

My '13 MS had the Progressive installed from the factory. No need for more protection than what the Progressive offers.

I too use an autoformer. As the other person said works well

Some parks have a "No Autoformer" Rule.. So mine is installed in a place where the sun does not normally shine (you need tools to expose it).

For the O/P..... When you get your rig, find the Surge Protector display and photo post it.. Many of our members will be able to ID the make from said picture.

Also there are a couple of different types of devices called "Surge Protectors" ONE is, One is not (it is a spike protector) I have both.

DRV Surge Protectors

Don't think an AutoFormer is a true surge protector. It does help bring up the voltage when low but minimal help with actual surge protection.

Yea the educated iddiots at the PalmSprings TT a few years ago banned them so I installed inside my compartment on my last MobileSuites. I removed it and installed in the new MS.

Funny a couple hours away at their Wilderness Park they sold a similar product to the AutoFormer.

New Management at the PS TT now and AutoFormers are alright now.

Great article. I was wondering what the heck an AutoFormer was. Now I must research how it works.

We did order ours with the Onan 5500 and auto changeover. Very worried about losing power with the dogs at home on a hot day. They aren't exactly electricians.

I'll post some pictures when the coach arrives. Just found out that instead of being delivered this week like we were told/hoping, it may not be until August now. Doh!
