DRV--Tradition & MobileSuites

I've been looking at the DRV line of FW's and am pretty impressed. I'm leaning towards a used MS model but have a question on the Traditions. Can anyone out there tell me if the AC's will do a good job cooling in the hot south in the summer.

Welcome to the forum.
The Tradition line manufactured by DVR Suites was discontinued a couple of yrs ago possibly due to the companies acquisition by Thor Industries Holdings and restructuring. They have since introduced a new product line called Aire which seems similar in some aspects to the previous Traditions. DRV's attempt was to offer a slightly less featured model that could be somewhat lighter (in the structural sense) to pull with possibly less truck. I don't believe they have the same R-values of insulation installed. They also were hoping to attract a slightly lower price point buyer. They are still nice coaches in that arena and can be optioned well. They must be held on to, as I don't notice many for sale? DRV trailers have been traditionally heavy units to tow. I wouldn't overlook a well maintained Tradition just due to the line being discontinued.
As far as thermal efficiency of these products. I think you'll find them on par with most similar products on the market. Most products are using very similar A/C vendors and equipment. The MS will probably perform marginally better as they are equipped for multi-season use. Increased insulating values on all 6 sides, with many models having double glazed windows etc. Do your research as all models can be equipped differently as common in semi-custom production lines. A MS will probably come as close to your A/C requirement(s) as any production unit short of adding a third A/C unit.
We have no complaints in regard to thermal efficiency, although we try not to frequent areas during their extremes. Last yr. during the late fall heat wave in the SW we stayed comfortable during 105+ degrees. The coach heats comfortably down to occasional near freezing temps on just the electric fireplace also.
FWIW: There were a couple of model yrs. 12-14 that DRV used a slide mechanism departure that might have not been the most reliable or had issues. This is not to say they couldn't be repaired or adjusted but this could be used for bargaining leverage while dealing with a prospective seller. I believe all the older brochures are still available in PDF form on-line. There are other DRV resources for inquiring minds on-line also.
Best of luck on your search.
