Dual Pane windows

Are they worth it, or more specifically, will they last? We have them on the motorhome and they make a thermal difference and they are lasting. A freight liner chassis is very rigid without much flex and the seal in the windows is holding up and windows are not fogging up. But trailer frames are not stiff and with all the flex they have, how well do the dual pane windows survive? I imagine they have an insulating values just as those in motorhomes so I know that benefit. But if the flexing is loosening the seal, fogging and discoloration would happen. replacing or repairing is a pane/pain.

I have them in my Wildcat 5th wheel and after three years they are holding up great. They make a big difference and would not want to be without them.

I think a lot has to do with how and where you use your RV.
- Full timer - probably a good idea.
- Desert SW - well that would, IMO. depend on the rest of the RVs insulation as well as air conditioning system.
- Northeast/west weekender - probably not a good way to spend your hard earned bucks

Of course, as said, just my opinion

We full time in a fifth wheel camper with single pane windows and tend to hang out in mild weather areas. For the extreme temps, we use Thermaflex covers over the window. I would think that already having double pane windows in your MH would be like buying a vehicle with manual crank windows after being used to a vehicle with automatic power windows. You will probably miss the double pane window benefit.

We are into our fifth year with our RV and so far no fog or trouble with our dual pane windows. Our 5th wheel is one of the ultra-lite units that translates into ultra-lite frame that the unit is built on. We are not full time but travel a two to three month stretch in the summer and several two week trips the remainder of the year.

I have them in my fiver, and it makes a pretty big difference in heat/cold and noise inside. During the summer, we stay cool with 2 AC's in Florida and Texas, and in the recent cold snaps, we didn't tear thru our propane. I have two windows that are slightly fogged, but I will say that this thing does have alot of miles on it. We don't sit still for long, and I don't think the previous owner did either. I think the cost to repair (better than new) on the windows is around $300 per window, but I haven't actually done it, so not sure.

We have dual pane windows in our current and previous 5th wheels. We have had no issues with this one. This last one we had a problem with one window leaking around the frame but that was due to improper installation. Once it was fixed we had no more trouble.

We have dual pane windows in our 2001 Dutch Star. Neither the original owner, or ourselves have every repaired/replaced any of the dual pane windows. Helps a LOT with soundproofing, and insulation, but as said before, a lot will depend on whether the REST of the coach is adequately insulated as to whether you see the advantages of the DP windows. For us, in a coach that is pretty well insulated, we've had diesel coaches next to us break down in the early hours of the morning and never heard them. One time in Alabama, the neighbors were griping about the guy next to us starting his coach, banging around closing up show before finally pulling out 30 minutes after starting his diesel, but WE never heard them, and they were on the side of our bedroom slide . . .

They are standard in our Landmark 365. This is the first coach that has them and so far I like them.

I had a travel trailer that had dual pane windows and I did have gasket creep in a few windows. Never any fogging. The trailer was a vault in terms of stiffness. The owner's forum found that this was prevalent for a couple of years and then remedied. A friend has a Country Coach motor home which is plenty stiff and he also had gasket creep problems.

I concluded that it depends on the manufacturer of the windows and when they were made. The trailers were of 2004 vintage. My guess is they have them pretty well figured out by now.
