I did it for 3 seasons with a Max Tow F150. As long as you limit the GVWR of the fiver to 10K and have the proper payload, it should do well. Since the HD Payload option wasn't available for my 2011, I added SuperSprings and Bilstein HD shocks. It pulled, handled and stopped well. I traded for an F350 at 70,000 miles because of reduced commuting and a desire for a bigger fiver.
I didn't carry anything in the bed of the truck, and if doing it today, would use the Andersen Ultimate hitch for weight savings.
This link should help. The author's conclusion is that a properly equipped Ford 1/2 ton is the ONLY 1/2 capable of fifth wheel towing.
2015 Half-ton Truck Tow Rating Reviews
FWIW, my stickered payload was 1848 and I got a fiver with a DRY pin weight of 1410 lbs which approached 1700 lbs loaded. I didn't get a slider hitch for weight reasons, went with a Reese 16K hitch and Reese Sidewinder pin box for clearance.

If your trucks not a MaxTow or Heavy Duty payload version then its probably not spec'd for a 5th wheel. If it's loaded then most your payload carrying ability is used up in bling. Look at the door sticker for your cargo weigh rating. Also what gears do you have?

Most? I think that's a misleading exaggeration. The Ford payload chart shows a payload of 2150 pounds for a 3.5 Ecoboost crewcab 4x4 with a short bed (this is not the heavy duty payload version, just a regular 7050 GVWR truck). Assuming this number is for a stripped truck the 1750-1900 pound payload stickers I've seen on Lariets of this configuration mean that payload lost to "bling" is far less than most.

Lets see what it is when he reports back with the door sticker info.
He has a 2013 not 2015+
For a 7350 GVW the payload is 1560lbs for a base model.
7750 GVW is 1840lbs for a base. MaxTow.
8200 GVW is 2130lbs for a base. Heavy Duty payload.

I have a 2013 Lariat 4x4 SCrew w/6.5' bed Eco-Boost with both the Max Towing & HD Payload pkg. and my payload on the door sticker is. #2162.

We pull a 2015 FR Wildcat 282RKS 5th wheel. Loaded weight from a cat scale is 10,300. We were over gross by 80lbs and 140 over on rear axle. We have moved things around and left some things at home and now are good on both weights.

Pulls/rides great but we are selling both since we have on order a 2016 Winnebago Adventurer 38Q.

I looked at a 2013 Platinum 4x4 crewcab short bed with a payload of about 1050 pounds. From 1520 pounds that's a payload loss of roughly 1/3, certainly significant (and startlingly low) but not most of it.

My 2013 XLT Ecoboost 4x4 crewcab shortbed with the 36 gallon tank, one power seat, factory step bars and the off road package has a payload of 1317 pounds.

If it were up to me I'd use an austere XL with rubber floors and crank windows but my wife disliked our last truck like that (which also had a standard shift) so a few doo-dads are in order. I fear the 350 dually we'll buy later this year will be a Lariet.

I had the XLT Crew Cab for weight savings with some amenities. And my F350 is also an XLT as the price saving over a Lariet paid for the Powerstroke engine.
